About the Program

Our Intern and Co-op positions are available year-round for undergraduate and graduate students. We hire 3 times per year, Spring (January), Summer (May), and Fall (August).
Qualifications:
In order toqualify for an internship and co-op, you must meet the following qualifications:
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age
  • College students undergraduate or graduate levels who are actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited college or university located in the United States
  • 1 full year of academic study complete or sophomore classification
  • Cumulative GPA minimum 3.0
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States for an indefinite period of time without employment sponsorship required
Amtrak offers relocation assistance as deemed necessary by the hiring team for summer internships and Co-op positions.

Meet our interns

Noah B.
Noah is a Mechanical Engineering major at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. His internship in the System Safety department at Amtrak, where our employees come up with new ways to make our trains safer. Interns assist in performing engineering reviews, and analyses of railroad infrastructure and components to improve reliability and to enhance safety on America's Railroad.

Nevaeh T.
Nevaeh is a Project Management intern in Amtrak's Engineering department. She is currently a student at the University at Buffalo, and is pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. Project manager interns assist in a wide variety of tasks, from design plan reviews, survey operations, and track geometry inspections to administrative support to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

Annette B.
Annette is a graduate Communications intern with Amtrak's Police Department. She attends Wilmington University as a communications major, with a focus in integrated marketing. A major part of her job with the APD is targeted around railroad safety initiatives. Annette is also a veteran currently serving in the US Navy reserves.
