SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The COOP will be dedicated to the Utility Occupancies Group under the supervision of the Real Estate Development Manager responsible for the preliminary design review and early phase construction coordination of utility installations on Amtrak property. The Utility Occupancies Group reviews project proposals from utility applicants for compliance with Amtrak’s engineering design specifications and then negotiates, drafts, manages, and enforces property rental/license agreements that enable these applicants to construct, operate/occupy, and maintain their facilities on Amtrak’s property. The Utility Occupancies Group also manages construction permit coordination of these utility projects. Applicants are typically interested in constructing gas, water, sewer, telecommunication, or electrical facilities on and across Amtrak property. The COOP will review new project proposals for completeness and process for internal review requiring coordination with several departments at Amtrak including Engineering, Environmental, Transportation, Construction, and others. The COOP will also process approved agreements and input information into real estate technology systems (Maximo, Documentum, SAP). This department utilizes Amtrak’s existing property to generate income through utility related rental/license agreements while minimizing potential risk to the company.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in performing preliminary plan reviews and other analyses of project proposals for completeness and approvability, using Amtrak’s design standards
  • Conducts real estate related research through assistance from others in the department
  • Manages incoming utility installation applications, reports on project progress and development, and collaborates with utility applicants to produce acceptable projects
  • Drafts and manages rental/license agreements for approved projects with the assistance from others
  • Provides reporting and statistical analysis to assist with daily operations

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be actively pursuing a undergraduate degree in Engineering, Business & Engineering, Construction Management, or Real Estate Management.
  • Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or sophomore status at minimum.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • High attention to detail and organizational aptitude.

 

The hourly range is $20.00 per hour - $23.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc.  In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.

 

Spring/Summer 2025 co-op program will run from March 31st - September 19, 2025.
