Why did you want to be an intern at Amtrak?

“My major, Civil Engineering, is very broad, but I've always been interested in Project Management. This position was right up my alley, and I definitely wanted to have this experience to determine where my strengths and weaknesses lie.”

Most exciting part about being an intern:
Meeting people and building connections.

“I’ve met dispatchers, developers, and contract managers for different companies who work with Amtrak. I have enjoyed the chance to talk with them and see what they do. They’ve also given me advice.”

“Everyone here is amazing, I’ve worked alongside several managers and they’re always willing to help.”

Favorite part of being an Amtrak intern:
The variety.

“Every day is something new. In project management you're always working on multiple projects, and each deal with something different. Learning how to facilitate between different managers and the varied tasks for their projects is always an interesting challenge.”

What was one of the more challenging things you experienced while here?

"We did a two-day long Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) course. It's a training that anyone who is going to be out in the field working on the tracks needs. Safety is important, and it covered how to be safe in that environment."

Do you have any advice for someone interested in being an intern at Amtrak?

“Build your skill set. Don't just rely on school to teach you everything, since nothing is ever just straight out of the book. Many times you have to think outside the box to get problems solved.”
