Locomotive Engineer Jobs
Amtrak Locomotive Engineers are responsible for safely and efficiently operating trains at all hours of the day and night, and under all kinds of weather conditions in order for us to deliver intercity transportation with superior safety.
As an Amtrak Locomotive Engineer, you will be responsible for operating various controls such as the throttle and air brakes while monitoring signals, and other devices that control the movement of the train. You will operate the controls in the locomotive cab while receiving radio communications from others and visually monitoring railroad signals, track conditions, and other external factors, which could affect the movement of the train.
Locomotive Engineer employees work varying schedules and travel extensively to accommodate our 24 hours 7 days a week operation, which may include nights, weekends, holidays or on-call for emergency situations. Work may require travel and time away from home.
Our Locomotive Engineers complete a rigorous training program, and you will have a challenging work schedule – including frequent evening, weekend, and holiday hours. If you are an independent thinker, keenly aware of your surroundings, and are able to effectively communicate and interact with fellow crew members and other personnel you may be a good fit for this very essential role at Amtrak.
