Our Values
At Amtrak, our values are an expression of our principles and beliefs. They guide everything we do – and ultimately, they define us as a company. We have a passion for service, we take great pride in our work, we believe in teamwork, and we have a strong sense of commitment to each other.
Do the Right Thing. This value is central to everything we do at Amtrak. A lot of “Do the Right Thing” comes down to the Golden Rule – namely, that we must treat others as we would like to be treated. The Right Things means:

Put Customers First. This value speaks to why Amtrak exists. If we see someone struggling with baggage or looking uncertain on where to find their gate, we provide whatever assistance they need. The principles of “Put Customers First” are:

Amtrak is the nation’s intercity passenger rail operator and infrastructure provider. We provide safe, efficient and effective intercity passenger rail mobility, consisting of friendly, high-quality service that is trip-time competitive with other intercity travel options. We’re continuously improving by leveraging the expertise of the best people in the industry: our employees.
Many of our long tenured employees began their careers at Amtrak. We believe promoting from within is a big part of how we grow as a company, while also valuing the perspective that external candidates bring to the table.
