Our Values

At Amtrak, our values are an expression of our principles and beliefs. They guide everything we do – and ultimately, they define us as a company. We have a passion for service, we take great pride in our work, we believe in teamwork, and we have a strong sense of commitment to each other. 

Do the Right Thing. This value is central to everything we do at Amtrak. A lot of “Do the Right Thing” comes down to the Golden Rule – namely, that we must treat others as we would like to be treated. The Right Things means:

Amtrak is the nation’s intercity passenger rail operator and infrastructure provider. We provide safe, efficient and effective intercity passenger rail mobility, consisting of friendly, high-quality service that is trip-time competitive with other intercity travel options. ​ We’re continuously improving by leveraging the expertise of the best people in the industry: our employees.

Many of our long tenured employees began their careers at Amtrak. We believe promoting from within is a big part of how we grow as a company, while also valuing the perspective that external candidates bring to the table.
