POSITION SUMMARY:
As an Intern within the IMCS Production group, the individual will be responsible for assisting in the management and oversight of internal Amtrak Capital construction projects within the New York Division and Mid-Atlantic Division. This position will have duties in both the office and field environment. The individual will work under close supervision of Production managers and in collaboration with all levels of stakeholders. Individuals in this role use engineering & construction management knowledge as well as analytical skills to support assigned projects, including but not limited too:
- Critical Path Project schedule development
- Support project production reporting
- Analyze production unit efficiencies and delays
- Monitors and journals in field modifications for as built drawings
- Work with production team members and subject matter experts to develop project execution plans
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Collect, consolidate, and review project performance data from field personnel
- Support project teams with production reporting, weekly look ahead development, delay reporting, summary of data analysis and other processes to ensure compliance with department procedures and standards
- Assist in development and review of project critical path scheduling and project execution plan
- Assist in the development of Site Specific Safety Work Plan (SSSWP) to ensure safety of the job
- Maintains, supports, and promotes a safe work environment while complying with all of Amtrak’s safety rules, policies, and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
- Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Relevant work experience (e.g., internships, summer positions, school jobs)
- 2 years of academic ungraduated studies completed or a junior status
- Must have the ability to coordinate efforts with other technical disciplines
- Strong Safety Focus
- Demonstrated experience in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, MS Project) sufficient to prepare effective business analyses, production logs and presentations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
Summer 2025 internship program will run from May 19th - August 8, 2025.
