JOB SUMMARY:

The Engineering Design Management Technical Intern position is a great opportunity to gain an introduction to the multi-discipline technical design review process at Amtrak as part of the rebuilding of America’s passenger railroad infrastructure.

 

As part of the Engineering Design Management Team within the Capital Delivery Department, this position will assist with the design review process for major capital in-house projects, as well as external third-party projects, to ensure that the project design documents are in compliance with all Amtrak and Engineering Department standards, policies, and procedures.

 

The Engineering Design Management Technical Intern is part of the overall Design Management Team within the Planning and Engineering Support group under Capital Delivery.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in the coordination and participation of multi-discipline technical review of design documents. Position works closely with many internal groups within Capital Delivery and the overall Engineering Services Department. 
  • Assist in the collection of design review comments for return to the 3rd party sponsor. 
  • Acquire a working knowledge of Amtrak business systems, standard procedures, and Engineering Practices, industry standards and best practices for the technical review of design packages and/or submitted project documents. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited education institution.
  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or other relevant major.
  • Must have at least 2 years of academic undergraduate studies completed or a minimum junior status.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
  • Desire to learn or further develop knowledge about the railroad industry.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task.
  • Is willing to take directions.
  • Good written, organizational and oral communication skills.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be a team player.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other Office 360/365 products. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with Revu Bluebeam. 

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS/ PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Primarily main-office environment.
  • Railroad right-of-way and/or project site visits may be required occasionally for short durations, based on department and/or specific project need. 

 

PAY TRANSPARENCY:

The hourly range is $18.00 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc.  In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
