SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for the preparation and review of designs for complex catenary design engineering projects and studies to repair, rehabilitate or construct new railroad electrification facilities. This position will also be responsible for strategically initiating major catenary and transmission projects related upgrades to maintain a state of good repair.

 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage a team of engineers to develop and produce Electric Traction designs including calculations and drawings for various projects Review engineering designs prepared by outside consultants for projects to be constructed on Amtrak property on behalf of outside third parties to ensure compliance with industry and Amtrak standards.
  • Provide technical expertise to other departments and make engineering decisions for Division Engineers and their staffs.
  • Provide Construction Related Engineering assistance when requested by Division Personnel and when necessary, make field inspections in order to make engineering decisions.
  • Experience in planning, scheduling, and Project Management.
  • Develop and produce Catenary designs for in-house construction for immediate repairs and emergency replacements.
  • Provide direction in a matrix organization. Provide technical guidance and support to associate electrical engineers.
  • Collaborate with system and division project managers on project progress. · Manage in-house and consultant OCS design projects.
  • Interact with representative from various Railroads and Government organizations on behalf of Amtrak and Amtrak Engineering Services.
  • Coordinate project closeouts with Amtrak’s asset management department to effectively track improvements made to the OCS infrastructure.
  • Support projects through all phases of design, construction, and closeout for programs and projects related to the OCS infrastructure.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, and cost estimates in coordination with the Catenary SOGR Program.
  • Organize, prioritize and maintain the ET Infrastructure SOGR Master Plan.

 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Construction, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 8 - 10 years of related experience
  • Demonstrated experience in project and/or construction management.
  • Demonstrated experience in design of catenary, transmission lines, structural steel, concrete and foundations.
  • Demonstrated management experience in a matrix organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing large projects from planning phase through construction.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and developing teams.

 


MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, STAAD, and AutoCAD.
  • Must be computer literate and capable of writing computer programs or spreadsheet programs to streamline design time efficiency
  • Proficient or capable of learning Primavera, Work Element Explorer

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 10 -12 years of related experience
  • PE Certification
  • Extensive experience in design of OCS and Transmission systems and other Electric Traction facilities
  • Extensive experience in Project Management, Planning/Scheduling, and Cost Estimating
  • Extensive experience in supporting projects in construction and design.

 

 

WORK ENVRIORNMENT:

  • Based in Philadelphia, PA
  • Travel Requirements: Up to 25%

The salary/hourly range is $149,400-$193,644. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
