Position Overview:
The Sr. Engineer Facility Planning is responsible for working with facility leaders, acquisition programs and project managers to ensure facility improvements are properly coordinated. The position will help develop IIJA funded projects and will help streamline facility construction and improvement efforts through the fleet acquisition programs and capital improvements. The Sr. Engineer will work with stakeholders and help develop conceptual plans that address the facility needs for the fleets that Mechanical maintains. The Sr. Engineer will work with the industry and market to develop and incorporate advances in maintenance that will improve efficiency, safety and quality for our workforce. The position may also lead contracted services to assist with the capital planning and execution.
Essential Functions:
- Develops conceptual facility plans, that will be the basis for capital improvements.
- Evaluates concepts and works with PMO to develop business case for approval.
- Works with facility leaders and mechanical department to develop safer, more efficient higher quality facility operation through advances in technology
- Responsible to ensure facility plans are communicated to all stakeholders and that the concepts address goals and initiatives outlined in PMO project.
- Responsible to communicate as necessary with stakeholders across many department
- Lead and direct contracted professional resources as necessary.
- The position will work with mechanical leadership to identify and lead improvement to existing efforts and work to ensure collaboration between stakeholders for new construction efforts.
- This position will also drive efficiency and optimization by looking for improved maintenance solutions through new tooling or infrastructure.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 6 years of relevant experience
- BS Degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills, especially in relationship to mechanical maintenance (rail and/or wheels and trucks exp preferred)
- Experience demonstrating knowledge of equipment maintenance procedures (rail preferred).
- Demonstrate sound leadership and project management skills and be a self-starter.
- Demonstrated ability to use CAD software for facility planning, preferably Solidworks.
- Effective communication skills.
- Basic PC skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel. Amtrak WMS and OMS systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- MS Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
- 8-10 years of aeronautical, railroad, or rail transit-related experience.
- Demonstrated working experience and knowledge of rolling stock mechanical and equipment systems and facility infrastructure and current maintenance practices.
- Direct experience in rolling stock maintenance operation.
- Strong knowledge of locomotive and car mechanical systems and maintenance practices.
- Working knowledge of WMS and OMS systems as well as Amtrak Maintenance Analysis Program and Standard Maintenance Procedures.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to troubleshoot wheel true functions and read measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, etc. in order to identify machine wear before major problems arise.
- Thorough knowledge of FRA and AAR regulatory rules as they relate to rolling stock maintenance facilities and equipment.
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The salary/hourly range is $108,000 - $139,960. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
