SUMMARY OF PROGRAM:

This Sheetmetal Worker Apprenticeship program will consist of extensive classroom and on-the-job training over a 36-month period. Classroom instruction will cover basic theory, skills, tool knowledge, and Amtrak courses specific to the duties being performed. Upon Completion of Sheetmetal Worker Apprenticeship program participants will become Journeyman Sheetmetal Workers (Pipefitters).

 

These duties, in accordance with FRA and Amtrak standards and guidelines, include but are not limited to:

  • Experience in troubleshooting, repair, replacement and rebuilding of mechanic equipment and systems.
  • Experience testing equipment and repairs to water and sanitation systems.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of specialized tools, equipment, and measurements necessary to meet established standards.
  • Some computer skills.
  • Shift hours during the Sheetmetal Worker Apprenticeship program are typically 8 AM – 4 PM, Monday -Friday with alternative shifts based on training curriculum needs. Upon completion of the program, shifts will be in accordance with the SMWIA collective bargaining agreement.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must successfully complete training and attain/retain certifications applicable to assigned,

 

 

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Good written and verbal communication skills.

 

 

The hourly range is $35.07 – $35.07 (with opportunity for increases, as per the applicable collective bargaining agreement, after beginning employment).
