The scope of work to be performed by the electronic technician communications includes, but is not limited to, providing a central clearinghouse point for Amtrak communications circuit problems.  Utilize digital computer hardware and remote microprocessor-controlled equipment to provide technical and troubleshooting assistance to field personnel in order to correct problems.  Provide interface between Amtrak, outside providers, and resellers and help determine area of responsibility as problems develop.  Provide key contact point for emergency operation in the event of communications systems failures and coordinate restoral procedures with Amtrak and outside personnel.  Maintenance of communications remote test equipment.  Coordination, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance for all voice and data communications circuits and testing of communications equipment.


High School Diploma or equivalent with additional technical school training.  
Must have 2 years' experience in licensed land mobile radio communications.

Must possess a practical working knowledge of testing, repairing, and maintaining wireless communications equipment, and systems. 
Must have a valid driver’s license.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:                             

Electronic/electrical background or education preferred.

Communications, electrical and/or electronic experience preferred.

Previous railroad experience in communications preferred.



Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
