SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Are you looking to combine your interests in civil engineering, transportation planning, architecture and design? Do you want to leave your internship having made a positive impact for Amtrak customers?
As a Stations and Facilities Development Intern at Amtrak, you will work in station planning, design, signage and facilities management and make a tangible impact on a wide range of complex, transformational projects passenger rail stations and railroads facilities across the country. You will work under close supervision of the Stations and Facilities Development team and in collaboration with all levels of stakeholders from department leaders to project/program managers, functional leads and external partners. Individuals in this role use a variety of technical and analytical skills to support a variety of assigned projects, including:
- Support project performance reporting
- Support project completion, invoicing and closeout
- Support and develop project scopes of work and project definitions.
- Support facility development and management activities that may include assessment, procurement, construction, and closeout inspections.
- Work with project team members and subject matter experts to coordinate logistics for assigned projects on to make a tangible impact.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Support project teams with project status reporting, documentation, controls and other processes to ensure compliance with audit requirements, department procedures and enterprise standards.
- Support the Facilities Development Managers with initiation and funding of eligible internal projects.
- Support the Facilities Development Managers with project invoicing and project performance monitoring.
- Support on-going facilities management efforts and signage task order projects to include data collection, station auditing, validation of audits and status reporting.
- Support third-party station development efforts to include on-site scoping, station planning, plan review and concept development.
- Support third-party facility projects beneficial to Amtrak by assisting with program development, site review, grant application assistance and station planning.
- Support Asset Management and Facilities Condition Surveys and Reporting
- Support Facilities Development Managers with facilities management projects.
- Researches industry best practices and investigates facility deficiency cases.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Support department goals of ensuring all aspects of the physical plant meet or exceeds current standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
- Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Architecture, Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Planning, or Facilities Management.
- Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.

- Experience using AutoCAD or similar drafting program
Fall 2025 & Spring 2026 prgram will run from October 6, 2025 - April 24, 2026.
The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
