SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for leading the supply chain operational activities across multiple material control locations located across the Amtrak long distance network. Develop continuous improvement in warehousing, inventory control, distribution, as well as creating process standardization and compliance.  Paramount to success in this role is the building of strong relationships with front line operational customers (e.g., Mechanical and Maintenance of Way Departments), to ensure material availability and quickly solve any shortages. In addition, this role will support Supply Chain’s strategic initiatives and KPI goals and objectives.

 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead the team in ensuring a safe workplace for all employees and visitors
  • Evaluate Amtrak long distance network for Continuous improvement projects aligned to departmental goals and objectives in the areas of standardization, process improvement, and cost savings initiatives.
  • Achieve or exceed the key performance indicators especially fill rate through close monitoring of daily performance and through root cause analysis to identify systemic issues and needed improvements.
  • Ensure operational compliance and excellence (audit, procedure, policy and KPI) in the following areas; cycle counting, WRAP audits, Wall 2 walls, management controls, budget and safety
  • Perform routine site visits to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations as well as Amtrak company policies for Material Control Warehouse Management.
  • Monitor attendance policies and lead any required employee investigations including interviews, thorough analysis and reporting.
  • Support & perform annual activities on Amtrak’s slow moving inventory. Interface with the operational business customers in assisting the identification of items to be written off or sold and or scrapped.
  • Support cross-functionally ISDP meetings (Integrated Supply & Demand Planning) with local operational business customers and other significant stakeholders to understand the business requirements for material across the Amtrak organization
  • Where applicable, support state supported contracts involved with materials management -  Siemens Charger Locomotives – IDOT, WSDOT, Caltrans and JPPA
  • Coordinate ALC-42 mobilization for the Long Distance business lines via developing internal KPI’s and SOP’s within the Long Distance Network.
  • Prepare and manage annual operating and five year capital budgets.

 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS or Bachelor of Science degree or the equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience

  • Strong working knowledge of SAP Materials Management (MM) and Warehouse Management (WM/eWM) software modules
  • Strong skills using PC-based spreadsheet (Microsoft Excel, Access); Microsoft Word, PowerPoint as well as SAP report creation
  • Prior supervisory experience of large supply chain organizations with multiple warehousing locations with the ability to provide guidance, oversight and leadership
  • Knowledge of union work rules, progressive discipline policies, and demonstrated experience as a charging officer
  • Strong working knowledge of supply chain management, financial analysis, process improvements and lean manufacturing concepts
  • Prior satisfactory job performance 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Lean Certification

  • 10+yrs in Supply Chain, Continuous Improvement, business related area or the equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience
  • Proven extensive & successful progressive experience in Supply Chain management field

  • Continuous Improvement - Six Sigma (Green Belt\Black Belt)

  • Demonstrated experience in Six Sigma & Lean philosophy and best practices

  • Knowledge of Tableau

 

 

WORK ENVRIORNMENT:

  • Expected travel: up to 25%

  • Position is based out of Chicago, IL 

  • Hybrid Weekly Work Arrangement (up to 3 days on-site)

The salary/hourly range is $112,200-$158,436. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
