Job Summary:
The Lead Technical Trainer – MW plays a key role in shaping the next generation of Amtrak’s front line track department leadership. This position is responsible for the delivery, planning, scheduling, and monitoring of Amtrak’s track safety standards (MW1000) and track foreman basics courses in an efficient, safe, positive and productive environment. The Lead Technical Trainer leads both classroom and practical instruction and collaborates with management and client staff to determine training needs and regulatory compliance and provides guidance and interpretation of regulatory rules.
Essential Functions:
- Deliver training programs according to established instructional standards, programs and methods
- Responsible for planning, scheduling, monitoring, and presenting performance objectives and documenting training records and participation using systems such as ALC, SPARTN, MAXIMO, or other Amtrak-approved platforms
- Assists in the development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of training materials. Ensures content remains current with regulatory standards, operational needs, and changing tools, materials, and technologies.
- Serves as a subject matter expert in the development, review, evaluation, and revision of track foreman training for compliance with current statutory/regulatory requirements, documented practices, technology, operational needs, and other requirements.
- Proctors and administers regulatory qualification testing
- Works with client department staff to ensure training programs align with relevant safety and compliance regulations
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- 6 years or prior relevant experience required
- Demonstrated experience in railroad operation planning including track inspection, track maintenance, and track construction.
- 49 CFR Part 213.7 qualified.
- Ability to become RWP, AMT-2, NORAC, and MW-1000 qualified and retain qualifications as required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in RWP, AMT II, NORAC or GCOR in application to track foreman activities including track traveling, piloting railroad equipment, and organizing and providing on-track protection to individuals and work groups
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
• Plus 8 years of relevant work experience.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong organization, administrative, planning, and analytical skills.
- Effective communication skills including presentation delivery, writing and verbal communications.
- Experience with PC-based word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
- Able to apply company procedures and requirements in development of training programs and projects.
- Present information both orally and in writing, as well as PowerPoint and spreadsheets.
- Plan, organize work, and adjust fluctuating assignments and workloads.
- Working knowledge of B&B, C&S, Track and ET Departments
- Ability to update PowerPoint presentations, as well as update book and test questions in a timely manner.
The salary/hourly range is $94,300.00 – $122,256.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
