The Drug and Alcohol Program Specialist position offers a flexible schedule and provides administrative and operational support to Amtrak’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Program which aims to address alcohol and substance misuse and achieve a healthy and safe workplace through a comprehensive program, including testing.


• Technical oversight for onsite testing events conducted by third-party collectors, in compliance with federal and state regulations and Amtrak policies
• Day-to-day administrative support for Amtrak’s Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Program including conducting compliance audits, reporting, benchmarking, communicating with third-party vendors such as collectors, Medical Review Officer, testing labs.
• Accurate interpretation and application of federal and state drug testing regulations
• Technical assistance and consultation to internal staff and stakeholder groups with regard to drug and alcohol testing protocols and policies (some off-duty calls may be necessary) 
• Subject matter expertise for disciplinary hearings
• Continuous learning and demonstrated understanding relative to drug testing regulations, legal updates, industry trends


• Bachelor of Science degree in social services, nursing services, drug treatment, peer prevention services or equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience. 
• Able to communicate to all stakeholders, at every level  
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of products (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint)
• Able to work without direct supervision
• Must display sound judgment and maintain confidentiality


• Previous experience with Department of Transportation regulations
• Previous safety-related experience
• 2+ years’ previous relevant experience 

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
