Job Summary

The position will be responsible for the interdepartmental coordination of the Airo Facilities Plan program at Sunnyside Yard, including phased construction coordination with daily operations for the Division.

The successful candidate will play a key role in minimizing and mitigating the adverse impact of the various projects included in the facility modifications to railroad operations at Sunnyside Yard and the surrounding vicinity.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as a vital interface between operating, planning and engineering functions of Amtrak’s terminal operations.
  •  Review track, traction power and signal power outage requests and arrange for their provision in a manner sufficient to meet project needs, maximizing productivity with no or minimal negative effect on regular railroad operations.
  • Meet regularly with appropriate IMCS and Airo program and carrier representatives to plan outages and develop alternate service plans when necessary, keeping all informed.
  • Monitor granting of current outage requests to ensure their provision in a timely manner, resolving conflicts as necessary to avoid further delays.
  • Partners with Airo and Engineering team members to assist in the development of the operational plan necessary to facilitate construction of Airo facility upgrades while maintain train and station operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. 
  • Plus 6 years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. 
  • Plus 8 years of relevant work experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with regularly-occurring Division IMCS requirements for track occupancy, also known as track usage, within the Sunnyside Yard/LIC area.
  • Knowledgeable of AC and DC traction power and signal power removal limits required to support IMCS project and maintenance track occupations and track usage. Knowledge of existing sectionalizing limits beneficial.
  • Demonstrated experience with 49 CFR, especially portions relating to railroad operations, protection of employees working on equipment and sections involving Roadway Worker Protection, together with interaction with control office operations.
  • Knowledgeable of operating schedules and operating practices of Amtrak’s operations in the Division area.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with computer-assisted control office train routing technology and control office management, together with record-keeping functions and recording requirements. 
  • Familiar with Yard and Dispatching System, C&S Signal System, Electrification Rules, Catenary and Wye Bridge Switching Center, interface operation.

The salary/hourly range is $94,300.00 – $122,256.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary.
