Sr Technical Trainer is responsible for the planning, scheduling, monitoring, and delivery of Amtrak training programs in an efficient, safe, positive and productive environment according to the established standards of the corporation. The Senior Technical Trainer confers with subject matter experts and management to determine training needs to develop and deliver substation training program within an assigned territory in addition to other programs as assigned.




  • Responsible for the planning, scheduling, monitoring, presenting learning objectives and documenting participating in the courses delivered
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in the delivery and development of training programs according to established instructional standards and methods
  • Works with Amtrak staff to conduct needs analyses in the identification of training requirements and recommendations and implements changes based on feedback
  • Efficiently and securely manages employee training records
  • Coordinates the effective use of training facilities and equipment
  • Accomplishes assigned duties to achieve strategic goals of the company
  • Proctors exams for required training courses
  • Works independently, established priorities, meets deadlines and ensure compliance
  • Performs other work as assigned



  • Minimum 3 years' work experience as a class "A" substation employee or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience
  • Knowledge of Amtrak Electric Traction policies and procedures
  • Strong organization, administrative, planning, and analytical skills
  • Effective communication skills including presentation delivery, writing and verbal communications
  • Experience with PC-based word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Must possess or be willing to acquire certifications for the following within 6 months from acceptance of position: New York Substation Territory, Cable Qualification, RWP, AMT-2 Class A Qualification
  • Ability and willingness to accept responsibility and make decisions
  • Able to apply company procedures and requirements in development of training programs and projects
  • Effective communication skills including presentation delivery, writing and verbal communications
  • Able to function effectively in a stressful environment
  • Present information both orally and in writing
  • Plan, organize work and adjust fluctuating assignments and workloads
  • Work independently and with groups




  • Associates or higher degree in related field
  • Previous experience in classroom and practical instruction
  • Technical School, Trade, Vocational Courses, Completion of Apprenticeship, Associates degree in related field and/or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience in the maintenance of substation equipment



  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
