SUMMARY OF DUTIES

  • The Safe operation of all Engineering Department Systems and workforce on duty during the evening shift (2P-10P).
  • Monitoring the evening operations from Penn Station Central Control (PSCC) directly interacting with Transportation on Duty Management whenever required due to Engineering Systems related issues.
  • Responds to the field without delay when engineering systems/personnel issues arise requiring a management presence.
  • Safety oversights responsibilities including performing audits on Engineering personnel working during the shift.  
  • Significantly improve the safety and on time performance of the operation

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Safety of operation
  • Monitor the PM peak operation from PSCC and immediately coordinate with on duty Transportations management and field forces to ensure all Engineering related issues are addressed in the safest and most expeditious manner.
  • Interact with Engineering evening workforce to ensure adherence to Engineering Safety and Maintenance protocols.
  • Coordinate repairs that arise during the shift that must be corrected during the upcoming night outages through the interaction with Discipline responsible management.
  • Engineering management shift representative.
  • Expectation is that the positions time will be spilt between PSCC and the field during non-peak periods of shift

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Highly knowledgeable of Railroad Safety, Operations and Maintenance Practices with at least 6 years of work experience in the environment. 
  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent combination of training, education, and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Demonstrated management experience working within the Engineering Department in one or more of its respective disciplines (Track, ET, Signals, B&B).
  • RWP, NORAC, AMT2.
  • Previous Supervisory or Management experience

 

PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Engineering degree and demonstrated C&S work experience.
  • Experience with automatic signal locations, cut sections, electric lock locations, and relays to ensure compliance with Federal and Amtrak’s standards governing railroad signal systems.
  • Demonstrated Finance and/or Railroad experience, preferably in the Engineering Department.
  • Experience in Project Management, including estimating, scheduling, etc.
  • Management or field experience in multiple disciplines (Signals, Track, ET, B&B)
  • Qualified MW1000 AMT 23/27 NORAC
  • Effective communications and administration skills.
  • Experience with conducting interviews, supervisory skills, advanced management and leadership, interpersonal communications, handling employee injuries conducting investigations
