SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Serves as the Amtrak Liaison to Metro North and supports Amtrak operations over Metro North territory (Host) and related special projects such as the Penn Station Access (PSA) Mega Project territory on the Amtrak Hellgate Line. Liaison will be the direct contact between Metro North Operations and Amtrak Operations to mitigate negative OTP impacts during regular maintenance, project construction, service disruptions etc. 

 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide direct Amtrak operations oversite on Metro North territory and support the safe and efficient movement of trains across assigned territory. 
  • Coordinate train operations during related special projects, including across the Amtrak Hellgate Line during PSA construction as well as PSA train movement from Metro North to NY Penn/Moynihan.
  • Represents Amtrak in daily interaction with Metro North Operations and related special projects. 
  • Mitigate OTP impact during various disruptions and related special reports. 
  • Support and review overall operations to improve OTP between NY and New Haven. 
  • Document and provide real time data regarding train operations for review and potential OTP improvement opportunities. 
  • Ensure that responses to emergency and unusual occurrence situations are adequate and in keeping w/established policies and procedures. 
  • Coordinates w/Engineering Department, Metro North, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure maximum production for projects and maintenance needs with minimum impact to operations. 

 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 9 years of relevant experience, including knowledge of operating rules and passenger train operations. 
  • Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent combination of training, education, and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ATDA and TCU labor contracts. 
  • Demonstrate understanding of CETC operation. 
  • Work as Train Dispatcher or in Operations and must be able to qualify on NORAC Operating Rules and the Physical Characteristics of the NEC – New York Region.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a matrixed organization with various internal and external stakeholders. 
     

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 11 + years of relevant experience. 
  • Knowledge of passenger operations and equipment of Metro North. 

 

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

 

The salary/hourly range is $117,500 - $152,280. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
