SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Have a passion for leveraging project management skills to drive the successful delivery of projects? As a Co-op at Amtrak, you will learn the foundational principles in project management and make tangible impacts on complex major bridge projects in a real-world rail industry environment. You will work under close supervision of a project/program manager and in collaboration with all levels of stakeholders: from department leaders, to project/program managers, planning and business analysts, and functional leads. Individuals in this role will collaborate with stakeholders and project partners, build consensus, identify, manage, and control change, as well as support the development and procurement of contract documents, fit-for-purpose construction documents, and audit work for quality assurance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs technical reviews of design submittals (plans, calculation, specs) to ensure compliance with design intent and project requirements
- Review safety site specific work plans to ensure safety operation for the project construction and field activities
- Analyze change orders, cost estimates, and invoices; prepare backup justification for submission to Procurement or for negotiations with contractor and/or design consultants
- Preform safety audits and field oversight of contractors and other project construction related activities
- Support project team with project status reporting, documentation, controls and other processes to ensure compliance with audit requirements, department procedures and enterprise standards
- Create and maintain required documentation including project organization charts, distribution lists, project logs, project schedules, requirements documents, project budgets, and status reports
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders (including customer service, operations, planning, real estate, engineering, transportation, local and state agencies, FRA, and other partners as required) to determine project needs and priorities.
- Review contractor and vendor invoices for approval. Processes same ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Coordinate project logistics, including calendars, major events, meetings and applicable presentations/agendas
- Work with construction managers, project director, and other project controllers' teams to assist in developing integrated master schedule for project using standard tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
- Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate/ graduate degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
- Must have at least 3 years of academic undergraduate studies completed or a senior status in fall 2025 at minimum.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Relevant work experience (e.g., internships/co-op, school jobs)
- Microsoft Office experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project)
- Drivers License in good standing preferred
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
Summer 2025 program will start on May 19th. However, co-op students seeking a spring/summer position may also be considered.
