Job Summary

The Analyst will have the responsibility for maintaining a system of internal controls related to analyzing, investigating, reconciling, and resolving project, customer billing and revenue transactions for the corporate-wide accounts receivable and revenue functions.  This includes coordinating and managing general accounting functions, business processes, accuracy and maintenance of the ledger accounts, and the resultant financial statements.  This position will be required to utilize Accounts Receivable and other related reports to facilitate analysis of past due customer accounts and other Accounts Receivable Activities for decision making.

This Position Description covers the following jobs:

Analyst - Passenger AR – responsible for credit cards, travel agents, airline, and other miscellaneous receivables.

Analyst - Revenue Accounting – responsible for passenger related revenues and deferred revenue liabilities.

Analyst – 403 (b)/Commuter – responsible for state supported and commuter project analysis and revenue.

Analyst – Reimbursable/Grant – responsible for reimbursable and grant project analysis and revenue.

Analyst – Real Estate/CUS – responsible for Real Estate and CUS project analysis and revenue.

Analyst - Billing – responsible for billing and revenue reporting and analysis.

Analyst – Cash/Collections – responsible for credit and collections reporting and analysis.

Essential Functions

The incumbent will be engaged with and require an understanding of Amtrak’s Financial accounting business processes in:
• Implementation and development of accounting controls and procedures. 
• Collaboration with Finance and related department sub-groups in the development, review and update of Finance policies and procedures.
• Managing customer relationships with Amtrak departments, internal and external auditors.
• Accurate recording of revenue and sales in accordance with GAAP, including cash and credit. 
• Monthly variance analysis including budget comparison, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and associated reporting.
• Budget preparation and validation for both revenue and expense accounts.
• Meeting and interaction with management to ensure charges meet contractual requirements. 
• Contribute to the monthly accounting cycle to ensure a timely closing of each month and year end closing, reporting and project requirements.
• Monitor SAP interfaces.
• Ad-hoc projects as determined by Manager or Director.
• Seek continuous process improvements to maximize work efficiency.
• Evaluate effectiveness of internal processes and controls and recommends enhancements to data retrieval, documentation, and process flow.
• Understanding of SAP financial system, organizational and business processes.
• Ability to perform Data analysis, summarization and translation into accurate, meaningful, timely and reliable management information for presentation. 
• Consolidation of the current financial systems into SAP which includes participation in implementation of integration of continuous process improvements and work efficiency into the current financial business processes. 
• Interface and develop/maintain relationships with peers, subordinates, and superiors.

Minimum Qualifications

• 3 or more years of relevant accounting, finance, or other business experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or equivalent combination of education, training and work experience.  

Preferred Qualifications

• 5 or more years of relevant accounting, finance, or other business experience.
• CPA certification.
• MBA or equivalent advanced degree. 
• Transportation industry experience. 
• Knowledge and experience associated with Amtrak’s accounting structure.
• Experience with SAP modules FI-GL, FI-AR, PS, CO, and SD, Business Objects, and BPC.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of GAAP and GAAS and the ability to apply them to the evaluation and creation of internal controls.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with proven ability to interface effectively with individuals at various levels within and outside the organization sufficient to exchange information, work cooperatively, facilitate understanding, and persuade and influence others.
• Ability to develop and utilize performance measurements effectively.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. 
• Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
• Demonstrated skill at effectively communicating financial concepts to financial and non-financial customers, including the delivery of formal presentations.
• Experience in developing and implementing organizational processes and business systems, including the development of relevant policies and procedures governing these activities.
• Demonstrated skill analyzing, interpreting, and reporting quantitative data for business use and action.
• Knowledge of cost accounting principles sufficient to plan and control corporate business activity.  
• Frequently learns new tasks, both complex and simple, in order to maintain effectiveness in position.
• Ability to communicate with all levels of management within Amtrak.
• Proficiency with integrated accounting systems, PC Applications, and with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Power Point, and Word.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Honest, ethical, reliable, responsible, and dependable.

The salary/hourly range is $65,500.00 – $84,888.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
