SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
This position supports development and implementation of train control projects, with emphasis on Positive Train Control (PTC) systems.  

This position supports configuration control of train control hardware and software designs as they progress from V&V to deployment.

This position provides critical processes and procedures to better ensure the safety of changes made to the PTC systems.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Develop and maintain configuration management processes for the Engineering Department’s PTC Lab to ensure configuration files, databases, and firmware revisions are properly maintained.
•Coordinate all lab test activities and ensure configuration of both components-under-test and support tools/systems as required for each test.
•Review ACSES Transponder and WIU design changes with staff engineers to develop lab simulation/test procedures.
•Perform ACSES Transponder and WIU lab tests and produce test reports and logs/analysis for review by staff engineers.
•Perform functional testing of ACSES components to troubleshoot/understand defects found in the field.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with three years relevant experience or seven years equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
•Prior experience with PTC system design, troubleshooting, and/or configuration management.
•Working knowledge of C&S equipment (microprocessors, relay, batteries, etc.).
•Prior satisfactory job performance is required.
•Ability to organize and plan work
•Ability to analyze situations and technical problems
•Ability to shift priorities at short notice
•Excellent communication skills
•Excellent attention to detail in analysis and work products


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with five years relevant experience or nine years equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
•Qualified on NORAC, AMT-2 and RWP
•Knowledge of Amtrak’s interlocking layouts and physical characteristics.
•Knowledge of FRA standards, rules, and regulations.
•Knowledge of software system design concepts and processes.


COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

The salary range is $93,000 - $121,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
