SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Responsible for the installation, operation, calibration, and maintenance of the data collection and video systems associated with Amtrak Catenary and Track inspection vehicles. Responsible for the basic maintenance of Amtrak inspection vehicles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Ensure the proper movement of the test vehicle and the integrity of the data produced.
· Assist the Sr Engineer Inspection & Tests to conduct regularly scheduled geometry inspections of the N.E.C.
· Assist the Sr. Engineer Inspection & Tests to conduct Intercity track geometry inspections, as required.
· Assist the Sr Engineer Inspection & Tests to conduct other track and vehicle qualification tests as required.
· Be available to operate self-propelled test vehicle with qualified pilot.
· Evaluate the data generated by the various collection and processing systems to determine validity of exceptions.
· Understand the principles of thermal imaging systems and able to collect, record, archive imaging data for flaw detection. Develop applications for further enhancements.
· Perform systems calibration, maintain, and troubleshoot the track and catenary data collection and processing hardware, and their associated video systems.
· Maintain interior and exterior of test vehicles, with assistance of M/E or M/W forces as required.
· Operate computer and video systems during testing and data reduction functions.
· Perform real time and offline systems backups, and archive all track geometry, catenary, and GRMS data collected during inspections.
· Ensure tools, test equipment, manuals, and maintenance logs are up to date, properly stored and available for immediate use, and that a predetermined inventory of working spare parts and output media is maintained in a systematic and orderly fashion.
· Maintain knowledge of Amtrak operating conditions and keep abreast of changes in such.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· BS / AS in Computer Science or Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
· Must be able to obtain qualification in RWP, AMT2, MW 1000, and NORAC/GCOR, and maintain these qualifications.
· Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Must have basic mechanical aptitude Electronic troubleshooting and calibration.
· Repair of electro-mechanical equipment.
· Proficiency in computer use and digital file manipulation.
· Proficiency in Windows operating system and Microsoft Office software.

- 3-6 Years of relevant experience

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
80% Travel – Field work. Nights, no weekends

The salary/hourly range is $86,500-$111,996. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
