Position Summary
The person in this position will assist the Amtrak Workplace Planning & Design team with the design and construction services needed to complete projects at Amtrak buildings nationwide. This includes reviewing, updating, and maintaining Amtrak interior design standards. This role may also require in-house AutoCAD design for smaller projects. Communication with Amtrak management, project managers as well as internal and external architects, engineers, designers, and constructors.
This position will work closely with the Amtrak Facilities Workplace Planning and Design team to provide support for real estate occupied Corporate Office locations and providing facilities management services at these locations.
The internship position is intended to provide a unique perspective of the railroad real estate space planning business earned by working alongside talented professionals. The successful candidate will work directly with the Workplace Planning and Design team to support space and occupancy planning, design and construction, furniture installations, move management, employee workplace experience, and other special projects.
The position will provide assistance to the business managers in the execution of daily tasks and support of internal and external customers for various space planning projects. Areas of learning will include becoming familiar with varying types of real estate space planning transactions and information gathering, site audits, updating real estate space planning floor plans and use the CAFM system, AutoCAD drawing updates, move management, updating office floor plans, furniture installations and coordination efforts.
In this role, you will be part of a team responsible for taking projects from conceptual programming stages through substantial completion and ultimately final closeout. On-site walk throughs periodically to support workplace planning initiatives for employees.
This will involve learning about many aspects of project management which include defining requirements, estimating costs, managing schedules, practicing safety and quality control methods, submittal/RFI reviews, change order document review, move management, maintaining good public relations, and other tasks as required for interior architectural design and standard construction management techniques and procedures.
Essential Functions:
- Solid understanding of design and construction processes for both new builds and renovation projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for design development and documentation.
- Effective communication with Amtrak leadership, project managers, and both internal and external architects, engineers, designers, and contractors.
- Interpret existing conditions and data, collaborate with project teams, gain alignment with key stakeholders, report on project status with key deliveries, milestones and bottlenecks, and risks.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
- Must be actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Facilities Management or Engineering Student interested in workplace strategy, planning, design, capital planning, and construction and project management.
- Must have at least 2 years of academic undergraduate studies completed or a junior status at minimum.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The hourly range is $18.00 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
