The Lead Supply Chain Analyst is a key role within Amtrak’s equipment maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) Supply Chain. The position is responsible for data analytics, root cause analysis, and the development and administration of key performance indicators, metrics, reports, material requirements planning strategies, and driving continuous improvement initiatives in support of inventory optimization goals. The role collaborates with production, procurement, and external suppliers to support supply chain performance goals and objectives.



  • Implement inventory planning programs, policies, and procedures to improve material availability and minimize corporate cash investments to inventories and related assets.
  • Improve turns and service levels throughout the Amtrak inventory through process improvement efforts. 
  • Assist in evaluation and monitoring of supply chain plans, transportation, and distribution-oriented costs. Work collaboratively to develop models to solve supply chain business problems.
  • Build decision support models based on advanced analytics to drive visibility and continuous improvement.
  • KPI and metric development, reporting, and monitoring.
  • Manage the centralized Inventory Planning functions for Amtrak.
  • Use SAP and other systems software (i.e., Excel or Access) to perform inventory root cause, gap, exception, exception, and performance analysis. 
  • Lead training efforts relative to SAP and other Supply Chain topics.
  • Ensure integrity of MRP data inputs



  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Supply Chain, Business, Data Science/Analytics, or related field required OR equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience in purchase or materials planning or related fields may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience
  • Prior experience with visualization tools (Tableau or PowerBI)
  • Expert in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, and Project
  • Prior satisfactory job performance.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, leadership, problem solving, and presentation skills to guide and support members of the assigned unit in achieving goals consistent with departmental and corporate programs. 
  • Expert in gathering and interpreting complex quantitative and qualitative data using various analytical methods, and able to develop tools for root causing and interpreting supply chain management processes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills necessary to analyze issues, identify trends, analyze results and make recommendations.
  • Experience in a matrix environment and experience promoting a safe workplace.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle day-to-day management of a variety of inventory planning related activities. Adopts hands-on approaches as necessary.
  • Proven ability to create and maintain a positive working relationship with peers, team members, and stakeholders. 
  • Proven knowledge of procurement, inventory management business applications and processes.
  • Advance understanding of Inventory Management and Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) 


  • Master’s Degree in a Supply Chain, Business, or related field required OR equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience in purchase or materials planning or related fields may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience required with a degree 
  • Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), Certified Production and Inventory
  • Management (CPIM), or other related supply chain certifications.
  • Demonstrated potential to fill a supervisory role. 
  • Expert knowledge of supply chain, inventory management, commodity management, and supplier management.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience with SAP ECC, SAP HANA, or SAP IBP.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience with S&OP and/or SIOP processes. 

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
