The Lead Technical Trainer (MW1000) - Engineering is responsible for the planning, scheduling, monitoring, and delivery of Training & Development programs to Engineering employees to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organization objectives. Serves in a leading capacity in team situations. Regulatory training includes FRA 49CFR Parts 213, 214 and OSHA. This safety training ensures that employees are effectively trained and motivated to provide the highest quality of service possible.



  • Delivers and develops training according to established instructional standards, programs, and methods.
  • Facilitates all activities related to the delivery of training-arrangement and preparation of materials, classrooms, and equipment as well as administrative requirements.
  • Functions as a project leader and subject matter expert in the development of various content areas for training programs.
  • Provides guidance and direction to employees regarding organizational and operational processes.
  • Effectively delivers training that meets regulatory and safety requirements for employees that work in safety sensitive environments.
  • Maintains all required qualifications and certifications in order to deliver training according to state and federal requirements.
  • Is responsible for the efficient management of the training records and the enrollment process of the training program.
  • Provides necessary analytical training data as required and performs duties as necessary to meet the department goals and objectives.
  • Participates in a proactive role to aid in the prevention of train accidents, employee and passenger injuries and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Provide guidance and interpretation of regulatory rules.
  • Develop and conduct safety, skills and regulatory training programs as required by the Engineering Department.
  • Knowledge of FRA and OSHA rules as they relate to Engineering Foreman Training requirements.
  • Must be proficient in instruction and testing procedures as they relate to Pre-Foreman and MW1000 training qualifications.


  • Minimum 5 years of field experience in Engineering Track Department.
  • 49 CFR 213.7 qualified or equivalent.
  • Ability to apply company procedures and requirements in development of training programs and projects
  • Skill to function effectively in a stressful environment
  • Ability to organize, plan and manage group meetings
  • Skill in presenting information both orally and in writing
  • Ability to plan and organize work
  • Demonstrated drive, ambition, and leadership ability
  • Ability to work independently


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Knowledge of Amtrak’s business, operation, and financial system
  • Previous experience in classroom and practical instruction

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
