Members of Amtrak's Business Improvement & Analytics (BIA) team are leaders in formulating and executing business strategies, high-impact strategic projects, and continuous improvement.  BIA drives value creation by shaping product & portfolio strategies to fuel competitiveness & growth, and by ensuring excellence and policy compliance in execution of those strategies.


Work on a fast-paced team facilitating and leading Continuous Improvement and Lean projects, initiatives, and teams. Work collaboratively with business and functional leaders to motivate and drive change throughout the organization using Lean and continuous improvement teams and projects. Be a motivator, change agent, and a continuous improvement tool expert and technique practitioner who can successfully lead cross-functional continuous improvement projects to completion and deliver measurable cost savings, cost avoidance, and revenue increases in line with stated goals. Assess project concepts and analyze risks and costs to make recommendations. Plan, prioritize, direct, and support business line or functional project schedules, resource plans, and budgets. Provide consultation on the use of Lean and Six Sigma techniques to improve process performance, service, and product quality. Grow corporate continuous improvement capabilities within the company through coaching, mentoring, and supporting the creation of a Continuous Improvement community of practice. Develop metrics that provide data for process measurement, including identifying indicators for future improvement opportunities. Develop and deploy Continuous Improvement and Lean Six Sigma methodologies and tools across the organization. One of the key deliverables of this position will be to represent the Procurement & Supply Chain team in the implementation of SAP’s S4 Hana platform.  

• Ensure continuous improvement initiatives are implemented within the Procurement and Supply Chain department as the department’s lead on the S4 Hana implementation.    
• Bias towards action and results. Driven to succeed and deliver desired results. Ability to prioritize multiple objectives and priorities within tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in applying strategy, methods, metrics, and tools associated with Continuous Improvement; inclusive of Lean tools and Six Sigma as well as other appropriate tools such as Theory of Constraints.
• Taking the lead role with stakeholders to align on project objectives, scope boundaries, resources, solution requirements, and solutions
• Strong project management skills and ability to lead complex projects
• Proven ability to diagnose root cause problems, reach solid conclusions, develop implementable solutions, articulate ideas crisply and concisely, and build consensus across the organization.
• Responsible for the organization of projects and project documentation.
• Excellent facilitation, coaching, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to facilitate change and motivate colleagues to practice continuous improvement and waste elimination
• Adept at building harmonious relationships across a diverse workforce to deliver results. Must command respect of fellow

• Bachelor’s degree
• 9 years of relevant experience in process improvement, project management, or equivalent combination of education and/or training
• Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Lean Leader, or equivalent certification
• Strong analytical skills and business intuition.
• Software development lifecycle experience
•Experience with SAP, Ariba, and/or S4 Hana
•Ability to independently set goals, prioritize work, and execute initiatives on time and on budget
• Ability to create and deliver reports on project progress and results to senior staff and executives
• Must be proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and business process modeling software (Visio, Bizagi, BonitaSoft, and/or Orbus iServer)
• Knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
• Experience writing solution requirements
• Strong communication skills both orally and written.
• Knowledge of organizational change management concepts
• Full understanding of a variety of Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, Lean, Kaizen, and Agile philosophies and the ability to explain and utilize core concepts of statistical methods with proficiency.
• Demonstrated experience facilitating and leading continuous improvement teams from concept to solution delivery
• Demonstrated experience managing projects and people.
• Significant experience redesigning business processes to improve time, cost, or quality process measures and to create and improve standard work.


• 11 years of relevant work experience
•Organizational Change Management or Agile certifications
• Business process modeling experience (e.g. BPMN)
• Management consulting experience
• Master’s degree in applicable field
• Transportation industry experience
