SUMMARY OF DUTIES: 
Responsible for the implementation of Amtrak’s Clearance Programs.  Implements and monitors programs or processes for maintaining clearance requirements.  Interfaces with the other disciplines in order to ensure that minimum clearance requirements are met.  Works directly with Transportation for the control and movement of dimensional loads across all Amtrak operated lines. Makes the necessary adjustments and corrections to policies, procedures, systems, and existing programs in order to improve the efficiency of the Clearance Bureau. With respect to track inspection and clearances, ensure compliance with FRA & AAR policies, Amtrak specifications, and state and local ordinances. Provide technical guidance and assistance to engineering managers as they implement new technologies in the area of track maintenance, construction, and clearances.

 

 

ESSENTIANL FUNCTIONS: 
•    Ensure the timely dissemination of Right of Way and Equipment clearance data to Engineering personnel throughout the Amtrak system.  Interprets, analyzes, and evaluates clearance measurements.
•    Manage Right of Way and Equipment clearance databases. 
•    Assist in the implementation of all corporate policies relating to right-of-way and Equipment Clearances. Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, Local, FRA, AAR, and Amtrak policies and standards. Provide technical guidance to all Amtrak departments regarding the application and interpretation of clearance standards.
•    Provide technical assistance and services during the testing of new track equipment and rolling stock. Work in conjunction with various test teams to establish test parameters and evaluate test results, focusing on the tested equipment’s impact on track structure stability and integrity.
•    Office and field work environment.
•    Travel 25%, primarily on the N.E.C. with occasional cross-country travel
•    May involve night work 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•    BS / AS in Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
•    Should obtain qualification in RWP, AMT2, MW1000, and NORAC/GCOR, and maintain these qualifications.

•    Experience in R of W or Equipment Clearances
•    Proficiency in computer use and digital file manipulation.
•    Proficiency in Windows operating system and Microsoft Office software. 
•    Cadd operation

 

 

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS: 
•    B.S. in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
•    Previous experience in train operations
•    Previous experience in project construction and design review processes
•    Roadway Worker Protection
•    MW 1000
•    NORAC/General Code Operating Rules
•    AMT II 
 

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: 
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

 

The salary range is $93,080-120,630. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
