SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Red Cap performs front-line passenger service duties such as assisting passengers with carry-on baggage, special service requests including mobility, ADA passengers, and anyone requiring general boarding assistance.    

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Properly check, receive handle and deliver checked baggage and express.
Red Caps are to assist passengers in the movement of parcels and luggage within the station and station facilities.
Must be familiar with Amtrak trains, timetables and connections.
Must be capable of handling customers in a courteous and efficient manner.
Must be familiar with the station layout and be qualified to operate station elevators.
Understand and apply appropriate tariffs.
Ensure that reports are done properly and promptly.
Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs.
Comply with Amtrak's uniform and grooming policy; present a positive, professional image on behalf of Amtrak through manners, actions and speech.
Communicate clearly and professionally. Work safely and as a member of a team.
Other duties as assigned by Supervisors.
 

WORK EXPERIENCE:
Demonstrated customer service skills.
Demonstrated communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.
Demonstrated experience safely working with heavy equipment such as hand trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED.
Must be qualified to operate electrical and battery powered equipment.
Must have a valid Operator's License. 

 

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
