TITLE:            Senior Electrical Engineer


LOCATION:                 Philadelphia, PA


DUTIES:     Provides engineering expertise and designs, implements, and maintains Amtrak’s Positive Train Control (PTC) systems. Develops and updates PTC component and system designs to ensure compliance with regulatory and Amtrak standards. Maintains, reviews, and updates wayside PTC designs and configuration management based on changes to PTC system. Develops and revises PTC standard procedures and Statements of Work. Addresses technical issues and facilitates modifications to Amtrak’s PTC systems. Participates in simulations and testing and revises procedures for the same. Supports installation, tests, troubleshooting, and inspections of PTC assets. Ensures changes meet Configuration Management policies and practices. Ensures PTC files, databases, and software are current and properly maintained. Provides engineering expertise to investigate systemic problems and develop solutions to reduce failures and increase system availability. Represents Amtrak in industry-wide groups and interacts with industry counterparts on configuration changes. 


REQUIREMENTS: Must have a Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field followed by ten (10) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in any job title/occupation related to Senior Electrical Engineer or any occupation related to Electrical Engineering. Employer will also accept Master's Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field, followed by eight (8) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience as a Senior Electrical Engineer or any occupation related to Electrical Engineering. Must also have four (4) years of experience: 1) Designing, implementing, and maintaining Positive Train Control (PTC) systems, industry-standard communication protocols, and train control systems; 2) Leading the design, analysis, implementation, and testing of PTC system modifications; 3) Using RF design, including conducting RF modeling and optimization, base station zoning/addressing, and RF propagation analysis; 4) Developing solutions to individual Positive Train Control (PTC) design problems; 5) Creating and maintaining configuration management processes; 6) Applying knowledge of FRA rules and regulations or AAR standards in PTC designs and implementations; and 7) Designing IP networks, configuring network devices, and troubleshooting networks. Travel may be required up to 25% of the time to any U.S. Amtrak location. All experience may be acquired concurrently. Remote work permitted in accordance with company policy. All positions require pre-employment background check verification and a preemployment drug screen.


SALARY:        $136,968 to $149,400 per year
