Job Summary
Provide management and support to the Engineering Services group under Capital Delivery. Accountable for all design management and support as it relates to scheduling, estimating, coordinating, document control and planning the executions of design reviews for the Engineering Discipline Leads.
Essential Functions
- Capable of prioritizing work, juggling multiple projects, working independently and delivering designs on time.
- Provides leadership and mentoring to the special trackwork and track design team in the review and development of track designs for track renewal and new track construction.
- Enforces quality control reviews and procedures to ensure that special trackwork and track designs meet appropriate standards and is conducive to the safe and reliable operation of all train service over Amtrak owned and operated rail lines.
- Provides guidance and inter-discipline coordination with Amtrak Planning, Amtrak surveyors, other Amtrak engineering disciplines and the Divisions in the development of track alignment designs and plans.
- Conducts field inspections to investigate situations before making engineering recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Industrial Engineering or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
- Plus 6 years of relevant work experience.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point).

Proficient in at least 1 CAD software package, i.e. MicroStation, AutoCAD.

Working knowledge of reading and interpreting manufacturing and/or construction drawings. Working in railroad track and around moving trains.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with railroad operations and maintenance.
- Background in manufacturing, material science or metallurgy.
- Participation in AREMA, TTCI, or other technical society.
- Experience in track maintenance and construction.
- Experience with railroad operations.
- 10 years relevant, progressive work experience, or 15 years of relevant, progressive work experience in track construction and design.
- 8 years of progressive experience in civil/track design on railroad track projects.
- Thorough working knowledge of AREMA and Amtrak Design Criteria.
- Qualified in AMTRAK RWP, AMT II, MW-1000.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough working knowledge of special trackwork, railroad track horizontal and vertical alignment design.
- Thorough working knowledge of railroad construction practices.
- Thorough working knowledge of Bentley MicroStation and/or AutoCAD software.
- Experienced in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point).
- Experienced in .pdf file review software such as Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam Revu.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail and completeness.
The salary/hourly range is $103,700.00 – $134,460.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
