Job Summary

The Sr. Engineer Track Data Science & Analytics assists with data processing, analysis, and storage to provide information for the development of data-driven scopes of work for maintenance activities. This role will be responsible for collaborating with colleagues in the Clearance, Inspection & Test Group and other key stakeholders to modernize existing workflows and to develop new tools for the visualization and analysis of infrastructure condition data.

Essential Functions

• Develop and implement machine learning algorithms, automated data processing workflows, and graphical and analytical software used by the Engineering Department for condition monitoring, work planning, and degradation analysis.
• Collaborate with Senior Engineer Data Management & Analytics to expand database and analysis capabilities of AssetWise software. 
• Collaborate with Manager Engineering Track Geometry Improvements to improve curve data analysis and visualization tools.
• Assist in providing technical, logistical, and administrative support to ensure the successful completion of assigned project tasks within scope, schedule and budget. 
• May be called upon to assist in inspections utilizing track geometry and catenary measurement cars.
• May be called upon to assist in field inspections.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience developing and implementing ML/AI models to support engineering decision-making activities.
• Experience with digital image processing in the context of Machine Vision applications.
• Experience with, or the ability to learn and understand the use of, software such as Python, GitHub, DataBricks, AWS, Matlab, Bentley AssetWise, GeoDrive, PowerBI, Survey123, ArcGIS, ESRI, and Bentley Microstation.
• Must be able to interface with all levels of employees and both external and internal customers.
• Must be qualified in, or become qualified in, Roadway Worker Protection, AMT-2 and MW1000, and maintain these qualifications.
• Must be skilled and experienced with MS Office, creating spreadsheets, presentations, memorandums, high-level scheduling and utilizing other applications to perform job functions.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills both written and verbal.
• Demonstrates leadership by taking initiative and requires minimal supervision of daily tasks

• Understands how to collaborate with various work groups

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
PLUS
• 6 years of prior relevant experience required
• 8+ years of relevant experience preferred

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil/Transportation/Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience and training in position of similar capacity.
• 5-10 years of experience in railroad engineering 
• Leadership experience in the following areas: people management, communication, public presentations
• 2-5 years of experience working with track geometry inspection data

The salary/hourly range is $103,700.00 – $134,460.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary.
