Job Summary

This role leads execution of data driven business improvement and analytics initiatives that support performance management, operational excellence, and value creation within assigned portfolios. The position builds and maintains analytical toolkits, performance monitoring processes, and data focused reports to enhance visibility into business results and inform decision making. Working closely with senior leaders and cross functional stakeholders, the role leads matrixed initiatives and ad hoc analyses to identify performance opportunities related to efficiency, cost, customer value, compliance, and risk. Serving as a lightweight project manager, the position applies benchmarking, comparative analysis, and performance driver disaggregation to build problem awareness, support prioritization, and enable effective remediation, while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.

Essential Functions

  • Translates strategic priorities into actionable improvement and analytics initiatives for assigned areas, aligning objectives, metrics, and plans to support improved performance, operating effectiveness, and informed decision making.
  • Manages cross functional improvement and transformation initiatives, applying Lean, Six Sigma, and/or change management methodologies to deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, quality, effectiveness, and financial outcomes.
  • Oversee development and delivery of performance analytics and insights, including metrics, dashboards, analytical models, and regular performance reviews to track results and support management decisions.
  • Partners with senior leaders, managers, and key stakeholders to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities, address cross functional challenges, and support adoption of data driven recommendations.
  • Supports development of business improvement and analytics capabilities by coaching team members, improving processes and tools, and reinforcing performance accountability and continuous improvement practices within assigned scope.
  • Disseminate identified improvements/efficiencies across the INFRA Renewal portfolio.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to collaborate and influence without formal authority, resolve moderately complex issues, and establish effective working relationships across business and technical teams.    
• Knowledge of business improvement, analytics, and performance management practices, including practical experience applying Lean, Six Sigma, change management, and/or project management methodologies.    
• Ability to define clear business problem statements, structure approaches to address complex issues, perform root‑cause analysis, and synthesize information into practical recommendations.    
• Analytical, business, and financial proficiency sufficient to interpret data, support decision‑making, and communicate effectively with technical stakeholders; working knowledge of data analysis tools, including Microsoft Office Suite and Power BI.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapt to changing priorities, complete work independently, and support the development of team members’ data management and analytical skills.
• Ability to work and excel in a matrix style leadership organization

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
PLUS
• 9 years of prior relevant experience required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • 11+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with capital projects within the railroad operation environment
  • Rail nice to have but not a requirement

 

Environmental Conditions

  • This position will work 4 days in the office and 1 day remote

The salary/hourly range is $135,800.00 – $176,040.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
