JOB SUMMARY:
The Sr. Quality Assurance Engineer supports the overall design, development and maintenance of automated tests within the Amtrak project ecosystem.  This may include several moderately complex business processes (for ex. framework design and modification, design and development of automated tests for multiple projects, performance test design and development and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) implementation and management). Serves as a project team member.
 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design and develop end-to-end automated tests in and other applications to validate system functionality. 
  • Create and maintain Automation framework in support of a variety of mobile (Appium) and web (Selenium) applications.
  • Create performance test standards in the area of performance requirement gathering and Service Level Agreements (SLAs), development of performance test scripts, execution of scripts, analyzing performance results and writing and reviewing detailed test reports.
  • Prior experience with the following applications to write script, develop automated tests, manage source code and test integration: Core Java, JS, Selenium, Java with JUnit and Cucumber, Jenkins, Attachmate API and BitBucket.
  • Support the execution, debugging and fixes of automated test suites, including providing strategies to minimize test rework and false positives. 
  • Support development of automated component tests to validate individual component behavior.
  • Assist conducting, reviewing, and/or coordinating test strategies, test schedules and test cases/scripts to ensure risks have been identified.
  • Participates in planning sessions related to projects or new technologies, to implement process improvement within the designated IT area. Documents discussions and agreements. 
  • Establishes liaison relationship with business partners and IT departments in order to provide process solutions to meet user needs.
  • Assesses process improvements needs utilizing a structured requirements process (gathering, analyzing, documenting, and managing changes) to assist in identifying priorities and advises on options.
  • Assists in the development of user manuals and knowledge databases and assist in user training.
  • Investigates, resolves and escalates problems. Monitors and analyzes metrics to ensure customer satisfaction and vendor performance.
  • Promotes and understanding of IT Service Management roles, processes and activities to business units and IT departments. Supports and participates in formal reporting related to IT Operations. 
  • Manages and supervises implementation of Amtec projects for NYD, SED, NED & Central division CETC systems.
  • Demonstrated relevant hands-on technical experience working within a large mission critical computer system environment.
  • Working knowledge of railroad circuit design as applied in signal systems., C&S equipment (relay racks, batteries, etc.). Knowledge of Amtrak’s interlocking layouts and physical characteristics.
  • Experience in Real Time Train traffic control systems with emphasis on Quality assurance and testing. Assist field personnel in performing quality control equipment operation testing.
  • Knowledge of FRA standards, rules, and regulations. Must be qualified on NORAC, AMT-2, and RWP. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related field with 3+ years of relevant work experience and or equivalent work experience or 7+ years of relevant work experience to satisfy education and experience requirements.

 

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in test automation development.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Core Java development experience (Java, Core Java, JE22, JSP, Servlet, JDBC, Angular.JS).
  • Experience in Test Driven Development, and/or test automation for DevOps is big plus.
  • Experience in web development such as HTML, FPML, XML, CSS, JavaScript. 
  • Development/testing experience for mainframe and distributed systems.
  • Experience in Agile Scrum.
  • Experience with at least one RDBMS such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase.
  • Experience in the transportation industry, particularly with reservation systems (TPF) is a plus.
  • Experience in Selenium is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux, Unix.
  • Experience with TPF and z/TPF and mainframe.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and implementations. 
  • Requires strong knowledge of SCM tools (Git/GitHub/BitBucket), Test Automation Tools (Cucumber, Selenium, Jira), Config/Provisioning Tools (Jenkins/Salt/Ansible), Scripting Tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills to work effectively with teams throughout organization. 
  • Hands-on experience in Performance testing with expertise in Performance Tools (Jmeeter/SmartBear/LoadRunner).
  • Programing experience in VB/VBA/VBScript or C#, .NET platform. 
  • Experience with Unified Functional Testing (UFT), Quick Test Professional (QTP) and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM).

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, OR QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related field with 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Master’s degree in a related discipline 
  • Certification in ISTQB Advanced Test Automation Engineer and Cloud Technologies; AWS Certified Solution Architect, MCSE: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure, Certified OpenStack Administrator (COA), Cloud Certified Professional is a plus
