SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Systems Engineer facilitates the expansion and optimization of Amtrak’s data architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for cross functional teams.

This role collaborates with multiple network professional, and various departments on business initiatives.  The Systems Engineer works on major projects providing subject matter expertise and technical direction and is also responsible for systems analysis, design, development, integration, and enhancement. The position works closely with customers, business analysts and team members to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports projects that may span a broad range of systems.
  • Requires expertise in multiple technical environments and possesses an increased level of business knowledge.
  • Assembles large, complex data sets that meet functional/nonfunctional business requirements.
  • Assist in integration of network systems and enhancements.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements. Automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability.
  • Builds the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using Structured Query Language (SQL) and Cloud Big Data technologies.
  • Works with systems experts to strive for greater functionality in our organization.
  • Adheres to quality standards and procedures.
  • Reviews systems for quality assurance and checks compliance with organizational standards and SLAs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or  Business Management with 2+ years relevant experience or 7+ years  relevant experience required to satisfy education and experience  requirements 
    Experience Signaling Systems and microprocessors (PLC’S).
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • Ability to read electrical plans and schematics 
  • Familiarity with CAD drawings and plans.
  • Strong trouble shooting skills.
  • Experience with Network systems i.e. Routers, Firewalls, and control systems. 
  • Experience using the following tools or equivalence:
    • Experience with CAD
    • Experience with SQL databases
    • Experience with cloud services
    • Experience with PLC’s microprocessors.
    • Ability to work well under deadlines and in a flexible environment.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master of Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ Years or relevant experience.

 

WORK ENVIORNMENT:

  • Onsite, Philadelphia, PA 
  • May require travel up to 10% of the time.  
  • After hours and periodic shift work may occasionally be required 
     

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

The salary/hourly range is $86,500-$111,996.   Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
