POSITION SUMMARY:
Support the Quality Assurance group in establishing and implementing a Quality Management System (QMS) within the Infrastructure Maintenance & Construction Services (IMCS) Department. This includes helping to create and implement the policies and plans associated with the QMS, providing support for Quality Assurance specialists, auditors, process engineers and other key stakeholders. The student will also assist in collecting and analyzing data to support key process metrics, audits, and continuous improvement projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Support IMCS audit program by helping to develop audits and analyze results.
- Assist in the investigations of complaints, safety concerns, and deficient maintenance and inspection processes.
- Create and maintain documentation and records to support implementation of a QMS.
- Build analytic models and decision support tools to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand business problems and propose solution approaches.
- Apply data mining techniques to analyze and make insights from data, and to facilitate data-based decision-making.
- Identify, obtain, and prepare the data needed for modeling and analytical efforts.
- Identify, develop, and present areas of opportunity within IMCS to influence business actions and capitalize on process improvement projects.
- Exemplify Amtrak’s vision and values through interaction with the team, clients, and stakeholders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
- Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Data Science, Operations Research, Data Analytics, Statistics, Engineering, or another related field.
- Must have at least 2 years of academic undergraduate studies completed or a junior status at minimum.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
- This position requires a minimum of 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Relevant work experience (e.g., full-time roles, internships, school projects) in Quality, Operations, or data analysis.
- Knowledge and experience with relational database systems.
- Ability to create data models and dashboards in business intelligence reporting tools (SQL, Tableau, Power BI, etc.).
- Aptitude for problem solving.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills including writing, oral, and presentation.
- Strong self-learning skills, personal drive and enthusiasm with analytical skills, and ability to innovate and simplify current processes and practices.
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
Summer 2025 internship program will run from May 19th - August 8, 2025.
