Qualifications Lead Service Attendants: 


Job Summary:  
The Lead Service Attendant (LSA) is primarily responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere of hospitability for Amtrak passengers that result in exceeding customer expectations. Works in a fast-paced environment onboard trains. Coordinates work and supervises a team of food and wait staff responsible for the provision of food and beverage service to Amtrak passengers. Maintains cleanliness of rail car interior ensuring compliance with FDA and Amtrak Service Standards requirements. Functions independently while simultaneously supporting the service staff. Utilizes superior interpersonal skills to communicate clearly and effectively with passengers and crew to ensure employee and customer satisfaction in both ideal and off-schedule conditions. Responsible for safe practices and meeting sanitation standards during all segments of service from loading, stocking, preparing, serving, clean-up, and end of trip close outs. Responsible for the security, sale, safe handling and accounting of food and beverage products. Strictly complies with cash and credit transaction handling procedures and protects Amtrak funds. Adheres to uniform and grooming requirements. Prepares associated paperwork. Utilizes a cash register or similar point of sale device and follows established accounting procedures without deviation. 


  • This position will be responsible for performing dining car service and side work as directed by the Lead Service Attendant by providing a quality dining car experience for passengers in a safe, efficient and professional manner. 
  • Must load/unload supplies and maintain an inventory of supplies 
  • Must be available to work flexible schedules that include weekends and holidays. 



Prior experience working in a team service environment. 

Some experience in a food/beverage environment, cash Restaurant and/or Travel, and Hospitality industries. 


Qualifications Chefs: 


Job Summary: 
The Chef is responsible for meal preparation in the kitchen on board our dining cars.  The Chef must have the ability to offer our employees a wide variety of full-course meals that are freshly prepared in our kitchens.  The Chef must assist with loading/unloading, verification, handling, and storage of all food and service products as well as cooking, plating, supplies, food prep, pantry, and providing to the servers all items on the current menu. The Chef will wash any and all utensils, pots, and pans, and will keep the entire lower level of the car clean.  


• Prepare full-course meals for Amtrak employees. 
• Assist with all phases of meal preparations.  
• Wash all items used in the preparation of meals in compliance with FDA sanitation regulations and standards.  
• Must complete all end-point duties. 


Qualifications Food Specialists: 

  • Job Summary: 
  • Responsible for following the directions of the Chef in the kitchen, while reporting to the Employee In Charge (EIC) in the Dining Car and the Conductor. 


Essential Functions 

  • Prepares all food on the menu in accordance with the cooking and service procedures manual. 
  • Manages an orderly flow of meal checks to ensure “first-in”, “first-out”. 
  • While enroute assists the chef with inventory and cleaning duties, including but not limited to making coffee, cleaning and sanitizing flatware, wiping and replacing table cloths and removing trash from the pantry and dining car areas.  
  • Cleans and re-fills salt and pepper shakers, water pitchers, and sugar bowls. Maintains knowledge of the location of all storage areas to prevent delays when supplies are needed during meal periods and assists in the loading, unloading, storing and rotating of supplies. 
  • Must be conversant and comply with Amtrak’s Standards of Excellence which apply to all employees, the General Rules for all on-board Services Employees and the Safety Rules for all Customer Services Employees.                       
  • Works effectively and efficiently as a team member of the kitchen and dining room. 
  • Works within the guidelines of Amtrak’s System Safety Program and Environmental Management System. 
  • Functions as Chef in an emergency. 
  • Other duties as instructed by the Chef. 


Sign-On - $3,000 to $12,500 (based on experience and subject to specific conditions and crafts) 

A possible sign-on bonus of up to $12,500 (for example $5,000 for two or more years of railroad experience or $3,000 for trade school graduates). Most sign-on bonuses will be paid out in the next pay cycle following the first 30 days of employment and should be paid out in one installment. Larger bonuses may be paid out in multiple installments and subject to specific conditions and crafts.
