Job Summary
The Manager Material Control position is responsible for the oversight of the distribution and management of inventory parts and records. The position manages the receiving, storage, and movement of inventory within a complex work environments that may oversee multiple plat locations regionally. This position supervises, coaches and motivates the department’s personnel, made up of management personnel and agreement workforce to receive, store, issue and distribute all direct and indirect materials used in the operational support of Engineering and Mechanical departments. The position also oversees the safety and security of all agreement and non-agreement personnel.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for the oversight of materials management within Amtrak’s Supply Chain network to support other locations and complex operations.
- Manages the work force, inventory systems, materials, safety, environmental & security systems based on current standards and policies.
- Performs routine site inspections to ensure compliance in all areas of material management processes
- Manages facilities budget and determines annual capital requirements for facilities & equipment improvements
- Optimizes material service levels for various Maintenance of Equipment and Maintenance of Way operations.
- Interacts with outside parties such as FRA, FDA and original equipment manufactures regarding inventory control/handling issues
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
- Plus 7 years of relevant work experience.
- Working knowledge of SAP and other ERP add on systems.
- Experience in materials management, materials planning, supply chain or related fields.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
- Plus 9 years of relevant work experience.
- Extensive experience managing multiple warehouse operations.
- Extensive experience in logistics & supply chain lean processes
- Advanced working knowledge of SAP IM\EWM ERP systems.
- Advanced working knowledge of visual management and lean philosophy as it relates to logistics & supply chain processes
- Working knowledge of ARIBA systems
- APICS Certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Expertise in materials management, warehouse inventory control, planning and distribution environment
- Working knowledge of SAP system
- Strong understanding of corporate policies & procedures including safety, material management & DOT (CFR49) requirements
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, problem solving and presentation skills to guide and support members of the assigned unit in achieving goals consistent with departmental and corporate programs
The salary/hourly range is $101,900.00 – $131,976.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
