SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The IT Sr. Principal Business Systems Analyst (BSA) responsible for providing Product and Technical Leadership to ensure investments are in alignment with technology standards, guidelines and business strategy. This role will utilize direct involvement and engagement with the development and cross-functional teams so that we maximize return on technology investment, and improve time to value, while minimizing operational costs. The successful candidate will develop technology solutions, designs, and align technical roadmaps with functional roadmaps The IT Sr. Principal Business Systems Analyst (BSA) will be responsible for defining and executing tactical and strategic solutions, technical leadership, and overall technology needs of the Transportation / Operations group.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work with IT Service Offering leader and team to develop and implement solutions that meet our short-term and long-term functional and non-functional needs.
- Experience with mainframe environments as well as distributed technical environments
- Establish measurable technical and business objectives that are aligned with business and organizational goals.
- Works cross functional across DT and with our business partners to implement appropriate technology solutions.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices and implement those appropriate to help solve Amtrak business outcomes.
- Understand technical dependencies and influence sequencing of work to maximize quality, business value, and overall business outcomes.
- Collaborates with business and IT subject matter experts to facilitate development of business cases and cost/benefit or return on investment analysis to justify IT initiatives/projects.
- Leads requirements gathering, analysis and documentation including business/functional requirements, non-functional requirements, use cases, user stories, business rules, data dictionaries, and other information or processes required to describe system changes supporting design, development, QA, UAT, RFI/RFP, enterprise architecture planning, and technical specifications.
- Orchestrates the collaboration of multiple business and IT groups across Amtrak to support system architecture, software development and testing.
- Advises or provides input to other technical disciplines on design, development, enhancement, and testing of assigned information technology systems.
- Provides significant platform knowledge during maintenance or enhancements.
- Proactively seeks to establish and maintain cooperative partnerships with multiple organizations across Amtrak including business partners, Service Owners, Architecture, Information Security, and Technology Operations.
- May assist in collaborating with the business to prioritize business technology initiatives as input to the annual planning and budgeting process.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Business Management, Systems Engineering or other related field plus 9+ years relevant (business/systems analyst) work experience or 13+ years relevant work experience or in subject matter expert (business analysis) capacity required to satisfy education and experience requirements.
- Experience with IIBA guidance and approach to requirements development/management
- 10+ years Transportation, preferable rail experience is required.
- 11+ years of relevant technical and business experience with 2 to 3 years leading technology solutions.
- Experience implementing technology solutions in an agile and Scaled Agile (SAFe) environment A+.
MIMINUM KSA (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Experience working in large complex companies that heavily rely on real time 24x7 IT operations to successfully service internal and external customers.
- Requires experience in influencing executive level management and key stakeholders.
- Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, work well with others in an integrated team environment, and must be self-motivated.
- Experience with mainframe applications and technology strongly desired.
- Expert-level analytical and problem-solving skills
- Broad knowledge of multiple computer environments, platforms and technologies and in-depth knowledge of the enterprise’s products
- Extensive experience with packaged software and enterprise solutions
- Extensive knowledge and experience with a variety of collaboration, requirements, testing and support methodologies.
- Ability to translate technical issues to non-technical audiences.
- Capable team leader, with experience managing teams of consultants, analysts, technologists, and third-party suppliers to develop detailed solutions, costs, timelines and methods for delivery of technology solutions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in information technology, or equivalent.
- Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) qualification
- System and or platform certifications, as appropriate.
- Project management experience and/or PMP certification
- Experience in Railway or transportation industries
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed remotely.
- May require travel up to 20%.
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The salary/hourly range is $131,830 - $170,850. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
