Job Summary
Manage moderate or high complexity projects or components of a larger project or program. Use advanced knowledge of project management processes and controls to accomplish project objectives by planning and evaluating project activities. Handle regular analytical and metrics-based reporting of project status, risks, issues, cost, and schedule performance to various internal and external stakeholders. Individuals in this role use significant technical knowledge and related experience to accomplish project objectives by planning, evaluating, and executing project activities with moderate level of supervision from a senior level Program or Portfolio Manager.
Essential Functions
- Successfully establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external resources and key project stakeholders involved in project tasks and key critical path deliverables. Build strong relationships within Amtrak to understand the business challenges and opportunities.
- Assist project team members, Subject Matter Experts, and Sponsor with the definition of project scope and objectives by involving relevant stakeholders, identifying requirements and ensuring technical feasibility. Manage project changes through established Governance Change Control process to ensure appropriate approvals.
- Work with impacted areas of the company to secure adequate resources, materials and funding. Coordinate multiple departments, vendors, and assets to execute major scope milestones efficiently.
- Establish project governance structures, mentor junior staff, evaluate risks, and maintain project artifacts in accordance with Amtrak Project Management Standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
- Plus 6 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
- Plus 8 years of relevant work experience.
- PMP (Must be willing to obtain within 12 months of date of hire)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong project management skills with prior experience managing complex cross-functional construction and development projects in a highly matrixed environment
- Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to present complex information and respond to complex needs of a large and visible project or program
- Ability to network with internal and external stakeholders, and leverage relationships to resolve complex project issues
- Effectiveness working diplomatically across teams with varying objectives.

The salary/hourly range is $94,300.00 – $122,256.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
