This position is a tiered position. Incumbents will have a position level assigned based on their skills, experience, and in alignment with position development plans. Position placement is at Amtrak’s sole and absolute discretion.  

 

This position will primarily sit in Philadelphia, PA. 

 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Senior Technical Trainer/Lead Technical Trainer  is responsible for the planning, scheduling, monitoring, and delivery of Amtrak training programs in an efficient, safe, positive and productive environment according to the established standards of the corporation. The Senior Technical Trainer/Lead Technical Trainer also confers with management and staff to determine training needs and regulatory compliance and provides guidance and interpretation of regulatory rules.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Develop and deliver training programs according to established instructional standards, programs and methods.
• Work with client department staff to conduct needs analyses to identify training needs, recommend and implement changes based on feedback.
• Efficiently and securely manage employee training records and coordinate the use of training facilities and equipment.
• Proctor exams after required training courses.
• Work with scheduling departments or local supervision to develop training classes for recurrent training.
• Perform audits and inspections of Engineering groups, both in training as well as field audits.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required OR equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 3-6 years relevant field or facilitation experience required (minimum of 7-10 years relevant experience in lieu of degree).
  • Technical School, Trade, Vocational Courses, Completion of Apprenticeship, associate degree in related field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Prior experience and demonstrated proficiency in RWP, and Amtrak's electrical operating procedures (Amt-2), and Maintenance of Way Safety Rules.
  • Ability to become certified to instruct NEO class. (New employee orientation)
  • Ability to become RWP, AMT-2, NORAC, and MW-1000 qualified and retain qualifications as required.
  • Working knowledge of B&B, C&S, Track and ET Departments
  • Strong organization, administrative, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication skills including presentation delivery, writing and verbal communications.
  • Experience with PC-based word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

 

MIMINUM KSA (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
• Ability and willingness to accept responsibility and make decisions.
• Able to apply company procedures and requirements in development of training programs and projects.
• Function effectively in a stressful environment.
• Organize, plan and manage group meetings.
• Present information both orally and in writing, as well as PowerPoint and spreadsheets.
• Plan, organize work, and adjust fluctuating assignments and workloads.
• Work independently.
• Ability to update PowerPoint presentations, as well as update book and test questions in a timely manner.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• 5-8 years or more of relevant experience preferred.
• Previous experience in classroom and practical instruction.
• Demonstrated experience in working with SAP


WORK ENVIRONMENT:
•    Travel up to 50%
•    Physical ability to deliver required course material in the classroom, maintenance facilities, yards and rolling stock equipment with long periods of standing.
•    Variable work hours and days nights and possible weekends as required.
•    Ability to keep large training groups focused on course material.
•    Ability to change schedules and locations on short notice when emergencies arise.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

The salary/hourly range for the Senior Technical Trainer opening is 78,600-101,844.   The salary/hourly rage for the Lead Technical Trainer is 103,700-134,460. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
