SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Sr. Director Architecture - Enterprise Data and Intelligence is responsible for providing visionary Architecture leadership to ensure technology investments are in alignment with corporate goals and its ability to move towards the future in an evolving business environment.  As an IT leader, this role will utilize education, guidance, and governance processes to maximize return on technology investment, and reduce time to capability, while minimizing operational costs. The Sr. Director Architecture will use visionary strategic thinking to choose information capabilities, strategize and build around them to solve corporate problems.  As part of the IT management team the senior director will be responsible for evangelizing for strategic enterprise change, executing strategy, technical leadership, and developing teams to move ideals forward.  
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for collaborating with Service and Business owners to create an architecture and technology plan at an enterprise level.  
  • Collaborates with the AVP DT Enterprise Architecture to ensure service offering in Data and Intelligence is consistent in process and spirit.
  • Confers with IT Service Offering leader and direct reports to develop a plan to ensure architecture is driving technology data and intelligence plans at a corporate level. 
  • Establishes measurable individual and team objectives that are aligned with business and organizational goals. Documents and presents performance assessments. Recognizes and rewards associates commensurate with performance. Implements organizational practices for staffing, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), diversity, performance management, development, reward and recognition, and retention.
  • Ensures staff has the resources and skills needed to support all work initiatives. Forecasts new skill requirements based on emerging technologies. Participates in IT workforce deployment activities.
  • Collaborate with executive leaders to provide strategic advice on enterprise data and intelligence solutions, utilizing modern architecture practices, and ensuring alignment with the organization's mission, strategy, and objectives.  
  • Champion a cross functional team of data and intelligence leaders within the technology groups to meticulously define a comprehensive strategy and roadmap. This includes:
    • Formulating strategies for effective data migration, establishing robust master data management practices, establishing architectures for AI/ML, analytics engines and cognitive services that drive decision making across the enterprise. 
    • Shape a cohesive data and intelligence architecture strategy. Ensure these elements align seamlessly with the overarching goals of the organization and contribute to its long-term success.
    • Review and assess strategies, requirements, and solutions in collaboration with Business and Data leaders to maintain consistency and traceability throughout the enterprise architecture, ensuring the impact on data and intelligence architecture is well-understood.
    • Develop and maintain Enterprise Architecture frameworks and approaches specifically tailored for the data and intelligence domain. Take on a leadership role in the Enterprise Architecture Leadership Team to drive group maturity and deliver seamless, end-to-end Enterprise Architecture Services.
    • Play a pivotal role in expanding the company's use of data and intelligence capabilities as a strategic enabler, realizing global business benefits, and fostering local service innovation while adhering to industry-recognized architectural models and roadmaps. 
  • Manage Capex and Opex financials across the service area. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data and intelligence or related field with 11+ year’s relevant experience or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience as an architect providing vision and choosing platforms moving organizations forward and scaled for expanding future initiatives.  
  • 11+ years of relevant technical and business managerial experience with 2 to 3 years leading an Architecture Practice.
  • Requires leadership experience in managing architecture teams and influencing executive level management and key stakeholders.
  • Requires demonstrated ability to manage multiple architecture engagement and effectively plan and use staff to ensure the architecture view.
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, work well with others in an integrated team environment, and must be self-motivated.

 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Business Management or similar relevant field
  • 13+ years of relevant work experience preferred.
  • Experience architecting at an enterprise level solving corporate problems.  

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Travel – 25% across US Preferred

The salary/hourly range is $187,500-$242,892. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
