POSITION SUMMARY:

The Future Careers Program intern will work closely with various members of the recruiting team on recruitment and hiring practices, business forecasting, and employment branding strategies. They will also assist in creating content on social media platforms that highlight employment brand proposition and aligns with our corporate brand and recruitment marketing strategy. The intern will partner with recruiters and Amtrak’s managers regarding engagement to promote Amtrak opportunities while also participating in recruitment strategy meetings.

 

In addition to your valuable on the job learning, interns participate in robust programming including professional development activities, cross-functional projects, senior leader exposure, networking events, and visits to a variety of Amtrak sites and schools. These events will help you gain exposure to the many exciting opportunities that lay ahead of you as you build your career at Amtrak.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Works closely with various members of Amtrak’s Talent Acquisition team to enhance comprehension of recruitment processes, strategies, and best practices.
  • Attend career fairs and recruitment events as available.
  • Learn the full recruitment process, from in-take meeting with managers to onboarding a new hire.
  • Source resumes, phone screen applicants and schedule interviews as needed.
  • Participate in business focused recruitment strategy meetings.
  • Work objectively with solid judgement to influence candidate selection decisions.
  • Assist with projects aligned with process improvements and recruitment development.
  • Create and maintain internal intern newsletter, interview Amtrak employees for bi-weekly podcast release and other communication.
  • Create social media content to attract applicants for various entry-level positions.
  • May support other recruiting activities as assigned.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree program with a focus in Human Resources, Psychology, Business Adminstration, Marketing, Communication and/or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Must have at least 2 years of academic undergraduate studies completed or a junior status at minimum.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be available to work at least 30hrs per week.
  • Relevant work experience and/or HR internship experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within campus and/or the community.
  • A desire to build a career in human resources in a fast-paced service and industrial environment.
  • Highly skilled communicator (verbal and written), strong analytical, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to execute with minimal direction and prepared to navigate change with patience, optimism, and poise.
  • Intellectually curious; always willing to probe deeper to understand organizational behavior and performance.

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: 

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.

 

Summer 2025 internship program will run from May 19th - August 8, 2025.
