POSITION SUMMARY:

The internship with Amtrak’s Safety & Technical Training (S&TT) team is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience within a fast-paced training operations department where we support new technology initiatives and projects that improve the learning experience for frontline employee trainees. The intern will have the opportunity to affect change while expanding their leadership skills, project management, and technical knowledge.

 

There are several large initiatives that the intern may participate in:

  • Administering Amtrak’s learning management system (LMS), SAP SuccessFactors. Assist in the evolution of the LMS, this includes developing processes for managing and uploading course content, supporting users, assigning learning and a data quality assurance project.
  • Collaborating with technical training design team members on new eLearning development projects to test prior to deployment.
  • Assist with building electronic exams within our LMS system

 

The intern will work in collaboration with various levels of stakeholders including S&TT Instructional Designers, Trainers, and Training Managers, and collaborate with other team members in HR and Digital Technology.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide support to Director of Training Analytics and Lead Learning Systems Specialist on LMS process improvement projects and initiatives
  • Collaborate with team members to implement eLearning testing process
  • Support change management for the various initiatives ensuring training staff is aware of changes to training programs, LMS, or processes
  • Utilize quality assurance strategies to detect and correct problems with LMS data
  • Establish and maintain data integrity rules and processes for the LMS such as course descriptions, course changes, assignment of course categories and course maintenance
  • Assist with daily operations support of the LMS, develop processes for managing and uploading course content, electronic exams, supporting users, and assigning learning
  • Consult with team members and participate in business requirements gathering and workflow process design as well as quality assurance testing
  • Create job aids and tutorials as needed to help employees familiarize themselves with the LMS and its functionality
  • Generates standard reports, as requested, and assists with data analysis
  • Troubleshoot LMS issues
  • Provide excellent internal customer service
  • Assist with other special projects, and duties as needed

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Management Information Systems or Business Analytics.
  • Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Inquisitive and willing to ask questions to gain solid understanding of task at hand

 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, SharePoint, Teams)
  • Relevant work experience (e.g., internships, school jobs)
  • Prior experience with database administration preferred but not required

  

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: 

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc.  In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.

 

Summer 2025 internship program will run from May 19th - August 8, 2025.
