SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

 

The Technology Director is an expert in software development, delivery and support. This role will serve as a senior individual contributor to provide technical leadership on across a variety of programs and portfolios. While there are no direct reports, the role will provide leadership to in house and vendor resources, serving as Tech Lead on various initiatives. 

 

The Technology Director works on major initiatives providing subject matter expertise and technical direction and is also responsible for systems analysis, systems landscape dependency mapping, design, development, and integration. The role works closely with customers, business analysts and team members to understand the business needs that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions. These solutions must be aligned with business and IT strategies and re in compliance with the organization’s architectural standards.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsibilities may include: 

 

  • Works on initiatives that may span a broad range of systems, technologies, COTs solutions, and functional areas. Requires expertise in multiple technology domains and leverages railroad business knowledge to propose and build solutions.
  • Leads development teams in designing and implementing solutions that meet or exceed the business expectations.
  • Creates solutions to meet functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Defines and provides solution options to business problems.
  • Evaluates existing applications and platforms and provides recommendations for system enhancements by conducting gap analysis, identifying feasible alternative solutions, and assisting in the scope of modifications.
  • Drives and advocates for automation, applying a DevSecOps mindset to all solutions.
  • Adheres to quality standards and procedures.  Reviews solutions for quality and compliance with application architecture standards and SLAs.  
  • Assists in defining development guidelines and standards, where needed to be utilized in software development/integration.
  • Provides technical leadership coaching and mentoring to team members.   Develops reports and presentations for senior management, as needed. 
  • Breaks problems down into smaller components to avoid big-bang implementation.
  • Defines, develops or modifies software application modules or enterprise wide software systems using disciplined development processes
  • Adheres to quality standards and procedures.  Reviews modules for quality assurance and checks compliance with application architecture standards and SLAs.  May assist in defining development guidelines and standards to be utilized in software development/integration.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or business management – or equivalent work experience
  • 10 to 12 years of relevant technical experience in a leadership or a Subject Matter Expert capacity.

 

MIMINUM KSA (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Extensive experience programming and/or systems analysis experience.  
  • Have a broad level of understanding surrounding information systems and application architecture standards.
  • Extensive experience in design, development and operation of internet scale web applications leveraging IaaS / PaaS / SaaS delivery models.
  • Experience in API Engineering for both REST and SOAP based services.
  • Strong object-oriented programming skills preferably in Java / J2EE, Spring, Hibernate
  • Ability to work well under deadlines and in a flexible environment.
  • Strong understanding of Service Oriented Architecture tenets, and N tier architecture deployments models when it comes to deploying against cloud-based platforms.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed in remotely.
  • May require travel up to 30% of the time.

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

The salary/hourly range is $153,660-$199,150. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
