SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Sr. Financial Planning & Analysis Manager is a key member of the Financial Planning & Analysis team responsible for financial planning and analysis of capital investments, creating business cases, financial modeling and financial metrics for the Mechanical department. Key duties include budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, financial modeling, business case development, data analytics and financial reporting to assist the company in meeting financial and business goals in the most cost-efficient manner.

This position is expected to serve as a positive role model and to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to Amtrak’s departments and an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, the Sr. Financial Planning & Analysis Manager must fulfill the needs of Amtrak in a manner which is consistent with Amtrak’s core values.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop in-depth business cases, design financial models, determine payback, ROI, IRR, NPV and other significant financial metrics to provide recommendations to senior management
  • Analyze financial information to determine the best outcome for Amtrak, and clearly report options for the business to drive decision makin
  • Perform data-driven financial modeling and analysis and provide recommendations based upon the result
  • Identify, calculate, track and analyze financial metrics
  • Create financial dashboards and scorecards
  • Develop monthly forecasts, annual plan and 5-year plan for capital expenditures
  • Analyze monthly results to maintain expenditure controls and report on variances
  • Identify and analyze new ways to understand underlying financial trends
  • Act as subject matter expert and serve as key point of contact for designated areas
  • Analyze financials, prepare presentations and “tell the story” behind the numbers
  • Maintain department labor model and implement improvements, as needed
  • Create regular and ad hoc financial reports
  • Review, understand and improve financial processes
  • Identify risks and opportunities to meeting financial goals
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with key personnel
  • Other financial planning and analysis duties, as assigned
  • Act as subject matter expert and serve as key point of contact for designated areas
  • Analyze financials, prepare presentations and “tell the story” behind the numbers
  • Maintain department labor model and implement improvements, as needed
  • Create regular and ad hoc financial reports
  • Review, understand and improve financial processes
  • Identify risks and opportunities to meeting financial goals
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with key personnel
  • Other financial planning and analysis duties, as assigned

 

MININUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field or and 9 years of relevant work experience or the equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Experience in financial modeling, financial analysis, and financial metrics
  • Ability to develop financial models and analyze the output
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels within the organization
  • Experience in financial reporting and ad hoc report generation and analysis
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with financial systems, such as SAP, Hyperion, Oracle, or BPC
