SUMMARY OF DUTIES 
This opportunity which is embedded within the Customer Experience team at Amtrak will allow interns to gain a better understanding of the full lifecycle of UX, Analytics Analysis, Digital Design, and eCommerce within a Marketing organization. The CX Design Intern position is responsible for supporting ideation, concept development, and associated digital designs/prototypes in support of the Customer Experience organization.  The development of multimedia assets and communications in support of the evolution of Amtrak’s Customer Experience will include but are not limited to the following:   
•    Projects will primarily involve managing and maintaining Customer Experience strategic communications plans, creating and analyzing customer journey maps, annotation of designs in preparation for executive review and supporting the development of product and service design recommendations across Amtrak’s digital touch points.  
•    Projects will involve the use of Design Thinking for interactive design, visual design, service design, and user interface design and data-driven analysis, project management, data visualization/communications and multi-media communications design.   
Interns will actively participate in the design review lifecycle and work in support of the leadership, product owners, and technical/vendor partners, while exploring, industry trends, and best practices in order to produce a gap analysis encompassing internal and external user experiences.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Design Administration and Annotation, Data Analysis, Communication Design, & Organizational Change Management, and Project Management: 
 
•    Support the design lifecycle and evolving framework and style guide 
•    Maintain and communicate project updates across stakeholders, internal project team, and vendors as necessary 
•    Manage the development multimedia communications in support of Amtrak’s Customer Experience initiatives 
•    Research and collect data on specific topic area 
•    Consistently maintain design annotations and version control as designs traverse the product lifecycle.  
•    Identify challenges/barriers for implementing recommendations and methods for overcoming those challenges 
•    Support the development of the CX roadmap and strategic project plan to implement recommendations including estimated funding requirements and time required for implementation. 
•    Strong familiarity with Creative Cloud, Design Annotation, and Information Visualization. 
•    Assist the CX Director with any additional tasks as needed. 

 

This position begins in January 2021

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
•    Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in UX Design, Graphic Design, Interactive/Visual Design, Digital Marketing, Data Analytics, Qualitative Analysis, Visual Communications or Social Anthropology, or related majors. 
•    Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution. 
•    Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status 
•    Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher 
•    Available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week between the days/hours: Monday-Friday, 8a-5p 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
•    An understanding of user experience, design thinking, and/or innovation strategy is an advantage. 
•    Expertise in Sketch, Creative Cloud, InVision, and Jira 
•    Experience with Visual or Graphic design tools and principles 
•    Experience with basic business, research, creative development, and analysis 
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office software products including Word, Outlook and PowerPoint 
•    Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, InVision, or related multimedia 
•    Ability to work independently and virtually on a specific project and collaboratively as needed 
•    At least 3 years of academic experience completed or junior status or above
