National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) has an opening for Principal Applications Systems Engineer in Washington DC

 

Job Duties: Define, develop and modify software application modules or enterprise wide software systems using disciplined development processes. Consult with customers, IT business analysts, architects and team members in the project planning process. Provide technical guidance in software design and development activities. Work closely with Architects and Development team to document the detailed design. Create technical design specifications and assist in sizing technical requirements. Work with customers to develop and analyze application packages and tools and determine optimum functionality requirements to meet those needs. Evaluate new application packages & tools and provide ongoing maintenance of applications. Provide consultation on a TPF based systems architecture. Participate in Scrum activities, perform code reviews, and ensure software meets quality standards with automation and DevOps. Perform or lead the deployment of new modules, upgrades and fixes. Implement integration plans, and develop, enhance, and innovate technical solutions. Interface with testing teams to incorporate plans into integration testing process. Document functions and changes to new or modified modules, test activities/results and other areas such as error handling and backup/recovery procedures. Review modules for quality assurance and check compliance with application architecture standards and SLAs. Assist in defining development guidelines and standards to be utilized in software development/integration. Assist in the development of user guides and training documentation. Develop reports and presentations for senior management, as needed.

 

Requirements: Employer will accept Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field followed by seven years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience in job offered or seven years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience in a related occupation. Experience must include: (1) extensive programming and systems analysis; (2) Agile Framework projects; (3) developing REST API, Web Services, XSLT and JSON; (4) continuous integration and continuous delivery; (5) experience in Reservation and Ticketing systems; (6) OO design patterns; (7) Inventory, Fares, Availability, PNR & eTicketing; (8) IBM MQ; (9) IBM z/TPF Application Programming (Assembler, TPFC/TPFC++, TPFDF, TPF SPM, SABRETALK); (10) IBM z/OS JCL; (11) DataPower XML Schema; (12) Jira & Confluence; (13) TPF/IDE & TPF/GI; (14) IBM TPF Toolkit; and (15) JAVA Programming.
