SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Manager of Safety Data Analytics provides analytical and reporting services to System Safety and various groups within Operations with the goal of achieving risk identification, mitigation strategies and/or improved processes to eliminate injuries, hazards and risk in the workplace. This person will contribute to developing the strategic direction of the company in terms of crafting safety performance goals, formulating initiatives designed to achieve them, and tracking progress accordingly. This leader is expected to brief executive leaders monthly at the Executive Safety & Security Council (ESSC), prepare the monthly Chief Safety Officer Report as well as the Safety and Security package for the bi-monthly Board of Directors meeting. This leader also supports the Police Department by providing direction and supervision to members of the police intelligence analytics team.  This strategic leader is expected to work under minimal guidance. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages the safety analytics in performing data collection and statistical analyses, creates and maintains internal safety data dashboards and reporting solutions that provide meaningful insight to safety data trends and generate predictions that are actionable.
  • Provides strategic leadership that shapes safety goals and the objectives required to accomplish them, enabling executive leaders to make information decision that advance SMS development and implementation. 
  • Prepare deliverables for executive leadership that include the Board of Directors Safety and Security Package, ESSC Package, CSO Package and other deliverables, as required. 
  • Development and continuous improvement of protocols and statistical analysis plans to support the planning, design and execution of continuous improvement projects that have been identified as key company­wide safety trends or issues.
  • Identifies best practices through analysis and reviews trends and analyzes information to develop and implement safety plans as needed.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required OR equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 7 years of relevant experience required.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, summarize, communicate, and provide recommendations on quantitative and qualitative train operations and safety data.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, a BI tool, such as SAP Business Objects or Tableau.
  • Facilitation, coordination, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Effective interface and coordination with stakeholders, including division and department supervision, union personnel, and contractors.    
  • Administrative and organizational skills.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physical Sciences or another relevant field.
  • 9+ years relevant experience preferred.
  • Background in transportation industry.
  • Experienced with managing people, developing analytical strategies, and working with executive leadership.

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
