SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Lead Technologist works on one or more projects of moderate complexity as the technology subject matter expert in DevSecOps domain.  Implements automated DevSecOps frameworks based on Amtrak specific standards and security guidelines in cloud eco system.

Assists in the development of CI/CD pipelines that enables Amtrak’s project development team to embrace security and governance aspects of software development life cycle. Along with the implementation of Infrastructure as Code to realize automation and repeatable patterns in cloud.

When involved with a project team, leads complex system analysis and design activity, acts in a consultative manner and provides technical subject matter expertise, system implementation, administration, and technical support.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides technical expertise across business functions. Identifies opportunities to improve business processes via new technologies. Research and analyze advanced technology trends within DevSecOps and Cloud Management.
  • Manage, collaborate, define, and implement CI/CD life cycle processes for cloud applications. Oversees technical efforts to troubleshoot new & existing applications to identify errors or deficiencies in build & deployment.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code and Automation using Cloudformation templates, Python, Bash, and Powershell. Manage intake of all project and user. Perform regular user access audits and remediate discrepancies, if any. Applications within scope of responsibility include, but are not limited to, Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence, VisualSVN, PALM, and Jenkins.
  • Responsible for the configuration and maintenance of the following DevSecOps toolset: Jenkins, Archiva, Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence, SonarQube, CheckMarx, Docker


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or computer science, or equivalent
  • 6-9+ years of relevant technical work experience
  • ITIL Certification or equivalent
  • Hands on experience in Programming Languages (Bash, PowerShell, Java, Groovy, NodeJS, Python, Go, C#) Fundamental knowledge on Operating Systems (Linux and Windows) Knowledge of any SQL and NoSQL databases with respective interfacing constructs. Knowledge of JSON and YAML data constructs.
  • Basic computer networking knowledge (DNS, Active Directories)
  • Experience with Jenkins, SonarQube, Checkmarx, AWS Codepipeline, SAST, DAST
  • Knowledge on Git workflows, CI/CD Pipeline development using Groovy (Jenkins), or AWS Code pipeline. Source Control Management (Bitbucket, GitHub, SVN, TFS, VCCS, Endevor)
  • Knowledge of AWS CloudFormation templates, Boto3, EC2, Lambda, Secrets Manager, Parameter store, SQS, SNS, Systems Manager, S3, Service Catalog, ECS/EKS Fargate, Kinesis, VPC, etc.. Cloud Networking and Microsoft Azure is a plus
  • Experience with AWS multi-region deployment
  • Knowledge of any container orchestration such as AWS Elastic Container Services (ECS) or Kubernetes
  • Experience in building docker images and docker build pipelines.
  • Must possess at least 5 years of IT experience with broad knowledge and an understanding of IT areas such as: Architecture, Infrastructure setup/management, Operating Systems setup, Database setup, Applications setup, Network setup, Cloud implementations, Datacenter and Cloud Migrations, HA/DR setup and Backup/Replication Technologies.
  • Must possess at least 3+ years of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Azure Cloud Services.
  • Must have a deep understanding of Windows and Linux Operating Systems
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with proven “in the moment” troubleshooting and incident response of AWS and Azure cloud based eco-systems. 
  • Must have a general understanding of SQL and Oracle Databases
  • Must have an understanding of networking concepts
  • Must be familiar with workflow tools such as ServiceNOW
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to provide after-hours support.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as work well with others in an integrated team environment and must be self-motivated.
  • Ability to demonstrate planning, organizing, and implementing skills which allow the successful completion of tasks by a specific due date.
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, work well with others in an integrated team environment, and must be self-motivated
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud
  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps Lifecycle, hands on Experience in DevSecOps, Automation, and Infrastructure as Code
  • Experience with ServiceNOW, Office 365 Tools
  • Deep understanding of the following:
  • Patching using AWS Systems Manager
  • AWS Trusted Advisor
  • AWS offerings: EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis, SQS, SNS, AMI, ALB, AWS Backup, IAM, CloudTrail, CloudWatch
  • RHEL Commands
  • AWS OPS Works, SSM, Automation, such as Chef commands, Ruby, JSON, Bash Shell scripting, Windows Powershell, Python scripting
  • SSL Certificates
  • Analysis of CPU/Memory/Disk usage on the Servers for the purposes of troubleshooting and right-sizing efforts

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:•    

  • Work performed in office and remotely
  • Team providing 24x7 systems operations and maintenance functions which could require might and weekend work to support incidents, outages, and/or planned production deployment functions
